Nord Wave question Subject description: is there gonna be a sound editor? |
 |
|
Hi all,
I love my NW but when I downloaded a presetbank and I wanted to explore how some sounds are made, it became clear this was not as easy as I wanted it to be.
When you want to see the paramter's value you have to turn the knobs because the ledscreen doesn't show the initial value of the parameter.
But by doing so you change the sound.
What do you think?
Would it be something that you would use?

Hey Pixie
if you hold down shift, while turning the knob who's value you want to know, the value will be displayed on the LCD, but the value won't be changed. A very useful feature indeed! |

Hi Jamesb
That's amazing, thanks a lot man!
You know I recently learned how to program my Nord Modular G2 and My Access Virus but I've been stuck in the synth section of the manual of the NW and I must say I find it hard to get the sounds I really want from it.
Modular synthesis, like the G2, makes more sense to me now, but I bought the Wave because it's a fantastic synth capable of producing real good sounds.
But I have to get familiar with the layout of the knobs and this [shift]+knob combination to see the parameter's value will help me a lot.
I created a INIT patch that's exactly the same as thge INIT patch from my Virus, a standard Saw wave and will try to recreate some of the sounds from the presets I downloaded.
Thanks again, maybe there will be music soon again on my myspace profile after all!
Greets,
Pixie
PS
it's a shame really.
I have to install windows 7 64bit on my pc real soon so all the software/drivers/soft synths etc will have to be installed again.
Well thanks for this valuable tip! |

Glad it worked for you.
The NW is a surprisingly deep synth. I just spent two hours playing with the 2 LFOs, that can run right up into the audio frequency range. So then, you can do audio frequency modulation of oscillator shape, filter cutoff or resonance. Then, the LFO rate can be morphed over the keyboard - it's possible to make it in tune with the oscillators leading to some serious gnarly sounds.
Hope the Windows 7 upgrade goes smoothly. I just did it a while ago, and it is a pain, but good to have everything working again now.
Cheers,
james |

I never had the chance to try out the Wave in depth, but the same things are possible on the Leads. I was always wondering why Clavia implemented these fast running LFO's, until one day I realized, special to the Leads Arpeggiator, it's possible to create a kind of Granular synthesis. Using this on the Lead some parameter do change drastically, special the AmpEnv... It's only a pity the Wave don't have an Arpeggiator. It will keep you awake for hours!
