patching/performing practices Subject description: "stop patching and get onstage!" |

one of the reasons i bought a nmm was to use instead of a laptop for live performances. while i have used it as my main sound maker a few times live, i find myself using it more as a production tool, albeit a really cool one; spending time creating tons of new patches is real fun.
has anyone out there been able to focus on one (or a couple) patches which they use as their main performance tool? if so, what are the important components of that patch? thanks... |

I have started designing patches for live performance, the main thing I try to do is assign as many useful parameters as I can to knobs, then practice playing the sound to get used to how it works.
I also quite like building patches that can be played, or left to play themselves for a bit, so build in 'drone' switches and switchable looping envelopes.
For sequencer patches I like assigning the record button to a knob so I can re-record on the fly and assigning another knob to record step lets me edit specific steps. _________________ Jez

thanks for the feedback modulator. . i like the record idea. im thinking about setting up a standard set of controls that i could assign to a midi controller that would work for every patch. . many decisions to be made though.. |

Over 400 views already and that wasn't a very quick answer
But what's the question?
The most important modules in a certain Patch?
I direct you to a Patch of mine in the archive
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/011_Patches/Blommers_Wout/First/AeolusHarpD.pch
It is used by me and several other users on stage to start a song or even the complete show.
It's just a Noise genarator and a lot of BandPassFilters, which form a Third-Filter... Most important are the Random LFO's controlling the Envelopes.
Random is no random, because it starts always the same!
BTW you need a NordModular for the soundm, because the Micro only produces a quarter of the effect.
