Tap tempo functionality for delay and/or tempo settings |
 |
|
I am a bassist (primarily) in a live band, and would die for (figure of speech ) a tap tempo module, that could in turn control clock and/or delay times. Most probable option to me would be a clock generator module, that has this tap-tempo functionality, as it can regulate tempo (duh) but also delay times already with existing delay modules.
I imagine a module with a logic input, that can measure the average time over 2-4 logic 'high' signals (preferably adjustable #), and convert it to a bpm setting. Using the midi in modules, any controller can be used to create these logic signals. |

oops, just found out that the delay clk modes work on the master clock, not on clock generators. Bummer. Functionality is badly needed though, by me at least (watching the poll with the first few reactions, maybe I'm the only one ) |

The ZeroCnt module can be used to tap tempo for a LFO. Connect a momentary pushbutton to the input of the ZeroCnt and the output of the ZeroCnt to the Picth input of an LFO. You need to tap two times and after the secand tap the LFO has the right tempo.
A slight disadvantage is that between the two taps the LFO rate drops to almost zero, somehow a S&H should be used that samples the ZeroCnt output on the second tap. Must figure this out once, but this is not straightforward. Definitely flipflops must be used, etc., to solve this. Or something with two buttons maybe.
But when it is no problem that the LFO rate is 'undefined' in between the two taps, it works pretty well. |

Thanks for the tip, Rob. I wouldn't mind the undefined period between taps too much, so I should be able to use this.
A long time ago, there was a tap tempo patch on the list from Xavier Tribolet (I believe), I hope to have a go tonight at combining both approaches in one patch. If all goes well, I'll even attempt to make tables for delay times.
But a simple module would be some much nicer and probably so much cheaper, too. |

.....just found out that I should be reading the manual more than I'm doing already , but still thanks, Rob.
edit: I don't want to make another post, so here's a link to the patch I promised in the post before

I'd love to have some way to tap the tempo for the master clock, yes indeed.
What about using a "shift+some button" combination for this?
Shift + the master clock "start/stop" button in the patch settings would be most logical. |
