Thanks for posting the set. I enjoyed hearing it again. Did you record it directly on site (and if so, how did you do it--direct from synth to laptop recorder, or something else)?

Thanks, Steve. In my system, the output of the Buchla and its pedals goes into a Lexicon surround digital reverb, then from there into a MOTU audio interface, which I use instead of a mixer. The MOTU is conected via FireWire to my MacBook Pro. The levels and other properties of the Lexicon are controlled by a Korg Kontrol USB fader box, which plugs into the MacBook, and all that is controlled from Apple MainStage, which hosts the Lexicon control plugin and other plugins that I use to process the output of the Buchla. MainStage also talks directly to the MOTU and lets me control the levels of the interface with the Korg as well. I then use the outputs from the MOTU to send the signal to the sound system, whatever it may be. One advantage of this system is that because the MOTU has multiple outputs, I can run the system in quad as well as stereo - the Buchla is inherently a quad system, as is the Lexicon, and I perform in quad whenever I can.
So, everything goes into the MOTU, and the MOTU is controlled from MainStage, so that in a sense all the audio goes through MainStage. MainStage has the ability to record its output to a file, and I have it set up so that hitting the Record button on the Korg's transport controls starts MainStage's recording, which then gets saved to the MacBook's hard drive. Since I'm not recording from the mixer, but straight from the digital signal flowing through the MOTU, so to speak, it's a very clean signal.
As long as I remember to hit the Record button on the Korg (which I don't always do ^_^), it's a flawless system - I don't need to be concerned with external recording hardware or anything like that. _________________ Richard Lainhart
