Subject description: About Velocity Programming
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hi,

In all three Manuals there is, at least I suspect so, a false statement.
See [Manual NL/NR page 26] [Manual NL2/NR2 page 26] and [Manual NL2X/NR2X page 25]

When programming Velocity to a parameter, point 5 is absolute, not right. After point 4, pressing the button again, the setting is done. Setting it to the lower value again makes it wrong...

I checked on the NordRack and NordLead2.

Could somebody check this also?
(I never use Velocity much, I like the Wheel/Morph combination better)

Wout

Hi Wout,

I've got a Nord Lead 2X - and checked your "velocity problem".

It is completely right what you are writing: By step 4 (pressing again the velocity assign knob) the parameter(s) is(are) defined by the lowest and hardest key velocity (during the learning process).
After this step 4 the both edges (= the range) of changing parameters is defined (and the program could be stored).

When you are now turning again the knobs that you have "velocity-learned" you can move this fixed range upper or lower, but the range itself will be constant. This is exactly the behaviour that is described in the manual at "Moving the range" right after this "step 5".
(I checked this by velocity-learning the "semitone"-knob and setting the range to 1 octave.)

So I think, the text in Step 5 is unnecessary and confusing. The text in "Moving the range" seems to be correct.

Have a nice Sunday

My conclusion also.
Only, when you perform step 5, nothing changes!
I think there is a 'dead' movement in which the range between the parameters doesn't change. It will do when the knob is tweaked the second time.
Maybe that's why the designers implemented this feature, so the second time can be used for range shifting.

But it is confusing...

Wout

Just wrote an article about it

Any comments?
