Just spotted on Synthtopia, that JazzMutant are shutting up shop.

I never got to see or play a Lemur in the flesh. I always found it a very interesting piece of kit, if a tad inaccessible - and expensive.

And that looks like it's been the problem. What with increasingly similar i-Phone apps becoming available, at a fraction of the price and which anyone can use; what future is there for small manufacturers of quality, hardware MIDI interfaces like this and, say, the Monome?

Not so expensive now, I saw one go for $600 the other day.

The Lemur is still far ahead of anything being offered on the iPad/iPhone though, but I am sure someone will come up with something as good given a year or so.

Funny, I went looking and found this article and it is dated Tuesday Nov 16 2010. So I guess I totally missed this.

The article pretty much speaks for itself.

It's a better model, short term, since they don't have manufacturing costs anymore. I guess the name change says something too. I didn't catch that when it happened either. Technology-centric, indeed.
