Hi, I'm Chuck Hoffman. I've been doing music of varying descriptions for a long time. Someone in rec.music.experimental pointed me to this site and it sounds like just the sort of thing I've been doing for the past month or so with my newest group, a trio called Passage Of Deformed Man Supermarket, made up of myself, Tom Vanderwall, and A Is Jump drummer Phil Sterk. As of now, we've been entirely improvisational, but are trying to make a point of recording as much as possible (shows and practices), the idea being that we can then revisit things we've tried before that went particularly well, as loosely defined compositions or general guidelines to re-improvise from. Sometimes we're very noisy, sometimes trancey, sometimes jazzy. Instrumentation includes echoplex looping, effects, tapes, trumpet, accordion, melodica, drum machines, synthesizers, casio keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, found-object percussion, toys, homemade instruments (twanger, hubcap-spring, satan's-harp, etc), pedal steel and lap steel guitars; just about anything that makes a sound gets thrown in somewhere if we have it around. We've played three gigs so far, my favorite of them a hastily assembled but very cool show with Tyondai Braxton and Parts & Labor. I'm interested in networking and generally conversing with both musicians and groups doing related kinds of things, and anyone else who digs these kind of music. We've also just finished out first 6-track/74-minute demo CD-R, with the exception of a cover design I'll be whipping up soon, and I'm interested in getting them into the hands of as many people as I have resources to do so. |

Okay, if this works, it will be at http://home.mchsi.com/~nothinghappens/Interlude_2.mp3 ... I only have 10Mb of space there, though, so I can only get about one or two songs up at a time. I could delete this one and post a (very) different/better one later. However, several of the tracks I have won't fit in 10Mb unless I make them a low bitrate. |

Welcome... Thanks for sharing your tracks, no matter how long they last on the internet. I like the Flight Attendents - Slow Day the best. |

Hey is my avatar all right? I think it's a pretty flattering picture of me, but someone on another site where I use the same one seemed annoyed with it. Possibly my expression in it makes it hard to take me seriously? |

The avatar is excellent! I have the same smile when I hear the Bialetti espresso pot go blabbering out in the kitchen. Espresso!!! _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Looking at Chuck's avatar and reading Stein's comment made me think
An old Italian song came back to me. The lyrics starts with something like:
"what did you put into the coffee I had in your apartment?
That's the look on Chuck's face _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Hello Chuck,
That was me in rec.music.experimental that tipped you about this place.
Didn't I tell you this was a nice speakeasy?
Hope you get what you need...
Why no new mp3s hosted on free sites like:
http://www.soundclick.com or http://www.dmusic.com
?
I'd say you're an extrovert judging by your avatar.
okay off to download land, the echoplex looping scares me
(gives me motion sickness half the time)
but the rest of the ingredients intrigue me... _________________ Power On,

Magic Mushrooms in the iPod thread? How could I have missed that!
Sometimes I am required to wonder about myself.
N.H., Let's go check your work out, shall we...

you must have a huge collection of those sentences you use as signature files. They are very charming, those by Elektro80 pale in comparison _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Actually, I collect them, and like to use them when I think one is applicable to the subject matter at hand. That one, actually, is mine. Jeremy Ficklin is me. That is a line from the liner notes of my first CD.

Here's a new link for them tunes... a friend of mine liked it so much he put the whole disc on his site in WinRAR format. http://www.neobarbarian.org/nemo.htm
I don't know about being an extrovert... my wife was taking the picture and was probably saying something flirty to me at the time. I can be pretty shy around new people, but among friends I can be almost unbearable. Depends on the situation or something. A true Gemini, I guess. |
