New to Max |
 |
|
After hearing about Max for years, I've decided to look into it.
I've just watched the demo video on the website and it looks very interesting.
In a way, it reminds me of Labview, but with more artistic capabilities.
While I do like to program, it seems like a lot of trouble to go to for sound generation & manipulation.
What do some of you do with Max?

I use it as a utility a lot. Things like processing MIDI, routing to more than one channel/hose/port, sequencing, etc.
And I've written some pieces using Max and MSP. Some cyclic drones for example.
I use it with my AudioCubes. They have an OSC server which Max can parse.
It makes a dandy audio processor too.
Don't get too hung up on how many things Max can do, or how many functions there are. A lot of my Max stuff is pretty simple.
Go through the tutorials though. This is very important. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

I'm going through the tutorials now.
I was wondering if it could send/rec OSC messages. Osc is yet another new thing to look into.
I was fortunate to get a license for Max 6 while it was on sale.
It's very reasonably price given it's power. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

Thanks. I've seen your name recently regarding Buchla stuff.
I was hoping to find a local user group for Max/PD, etc. The only
one is the SF Electronic Music group on meetup.com, but it's not
Max-specific (nor is it close enough for me to go to).
I've been having fun going through the tutorials & viddys. There is
no end to the creativity that Max brings.
I will probably tap into it in conjunction with microcontrollers more than audio (at least initially), but I'm sure my interests will diverge quickly. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |
