For many years now I've been selecting screens on the "do I see pixels" criterion .. on this 15.4" screen I have 1680 by 1050 pixels (109 pixels / inch horiz) and I can see them .. on that 17" screen I have 1920 by 1200 pixels (112 pixels/inch horiz) I see almost no pixels .. its getting good enough for me .. or my eyes are getting bad enough , your retina is not mine .. anyway on that criterion, if I was to buy a new mac which on the non retina one has more pixels / inch even I think ... too bad they don't have a 17" one tho.

I'm glad I don't have to buy a new Macbook right now.

When the time does come to buy a new Macbook, it will be because a new version of OSX will not run on my current machine. And when that happens, I will still not pay an extra $500 just for a Retina display. I am not a graphics professional - I don't run AutoCAD or anything like that.

I am more likely use apps that look pretty in Retina on an iPad than a Macbook, because I'm more likely to read books and color magazines on an iPad.
