Shepard tones on the G1?

Hi Tony;

I've attached a GIF of the G2 patch; that should be a help in figuring it
out.

Essentially, you need 8 (or however many components you want) individual
blocks, each of which contains an LFO, a sine oscillator, a multiplier, and
some level shifting/ shaping logic. The 8 LFOs must generate sawtooths that
are exactly 45 degrees out of phase; these drive the oscillator pitch. A
level shifter and a rectifier in each block converts the sawtooth to a
triangle, which then controls that block's amplitude. Mix them together and
you're mostly done.

The tricky part is tuning the oscillators. You need a master knob that sets
the pitch mode depth of all 8 LFOs; that's what the LevMult1's and the
purple cords do. The Fade modules change the direction of motion; they are
only accurate at the positive and negative extremes (a switch would have
been better.)

Have fun. To me the real challenge is in figuring out how to use this in a
musical context; so far I've drawn a blank on that.

What I use for shepard scales is a fairly straightforward setup with sines for all harmonics and a modulus function to repeat the same octave over the whole keyboard. This makes them fairly intuitively to play naturally and you get to keep your pitchbend.

As for musical aplications.... Well, I don´t think it´s that hard to aply, it´s just that it only makes sense if you wish to drive your listeners insane and of cource you yourself need to listen to it while composing. I once made myself physically sick while making a nasty stereo barberpole phaser, this stuff can be extremely disorienting.
