So I have stepped a few steps forward on this modular project.
In the start of june me and my girlfriend went for a month worth of interrailing in europe, so I did not get anything done, but since we got home I have been hard at work on my modular!
I'll start off with some pictures:
First: the final design of my panels! This is a moog size aluminum panel with a self adhesive paper covered with matte spray laquer as front face. I've tried lots of stuff to make it look nice and be durable, but this is by far the best I have come up with.
This is my case under construction:
And here it is more or less done:
The case will be covered with black tolex and metal corners, very much like the arp 2600. The little panel next to the keyboard will be for CV and Gate connectors, MIDI in and portamento control. Maybe I'll throw in a knob for modulation too, for performance.
I've got a little over 20 PCBs to populate and make panels for now. With the real estate of the case it's gonna be a lot of fun to put them together and start actually playing this instrument!
I've ordered the tolex and it is on its way, so soon I'll have the final design of the case. Can't wait to see the result!
So what do you guys think about the design? |

Ah thank you Yves! Nice to see that you follow the threads on here.
I've just finished covering the synth with black tolex, ARP style. I will get back to you with a picture later on.
Tomorrow I will install PSUs and DC rails. After that it is very close to being a playable synth! |

So, I've made quite a bit of progress on my yusynth project.
As of today i've finished:
3x VCO
2x VC-LFO
2x VCA
2x ADSR
1x Noise
1x Sample & Hold
1x Minimoog Filter
1x Synthacon Filter
1x ARP 2600 Reverb
And the case with keyboard with cv gate and more.
I'll post some pictures soon.
Assembly has been very straight forward. Yves diagrams are easy to follow and have very few flaws. Thanks a lot for that, Yves!
The synth sounds totally awesome and I can't wait to get a sequencer and more effects in it. I have a MFOS 8-pole phaser pcb waiting to get populated. I'm planning some kind of delay too, maybe I'll design something around the PT2399 with CV.
Anyway, building yusynth is so much fun! Thank you Yves for making it so much fun! |

Pictures of my Yusynth Modular |
 |
|
So I got around to taking some nice pictures of my modular synth. It's pretty close to what I drew in sketchup about a year ago, actually much nicer.
What you see is where I'm at right now. 10 modules have been made, and I have 20 more to fit in there. Some of them will be double the width, as you see in the bottom right corner. That's gonna be the MFOS stereo panning mixer with line and headphone out. I'm gonna make at least two half width panels too with multiples.
So anyway, the pictures:
I'd love to hear what you guys think of my build!

Thanks guys.
My modular project has been on hold for a while, had a lot of work to do. But now it's summer time and I got time to solder and make panels again! So beginning next week I'll be continuing the process of making! |

Future plans! |
 |
|
So: I'm continuing my build soon.
The status of my synth right now is exactly what my pictures above shows.
I've got:
3 Yusynth VCO
1 Yusynth moog filter
1 Yusynth synthacon filter
2 Yusynth ADSR
2 Yusynth VCA
2 Yusynth LFO-2
1 Yusynth Sample Hold and Noise
1 Yusynth AC/DC mixer
1 ARP spring reverb driver (and of course a spring reverb tank..)
And I've also got a MIDIMPLANT midi to cv converter.
On my shelves I have PCBs and components for building the following:
2 more ADSR
2 more VCA
2 more LFO
1 more AC/DC mixer
1 Yusynth ARP filter
1 Yusynth EMS filter
2 MFOS ECHOFX
1 MFOS Phaser
1 MFOS Stereo panning mixer with send return.
So that's what I have to sink my teeth into the following couple of weeks.
The modular case will probably be about 75% full when I'm done.
I have plans to change my keyboard control panel to the left of my keyboard to a X/Y joystick that puts out CV. Would be cool for controlling stuff in a more complex way. All my MIDI to CV will be put behind a panel instead and have multiples built in. I'm also planning on putting an arduino midi arpeggiator into my modular, and also some kind of arduino sequencer.
I also really want to build the Yusynth wave folder and saw animator, and the quad LFO, max min and comparators seem useful aswell. We'll see what I can fit in there when I get so far.
Wish me luck on my onwards journey! |

Thank you Yves!
I recently purchased a Microbrute to go along with the rest of my synths. I really enjoy it, and I find the filter quite different from the steiner parker I built for my modular. The DIY one is way more brutal and harsh when I drive the input hard, and the microbrute filter is way more controlled at high resonance settings. Although they being the same filter design I really like that they behave quite differently. |

I've just read this thread from the beginning (new in town). What a great build! It looks fantastic, Sebastian. I have a number of Yves' designs on my "to consider" list. I think they may be moving very quickly to the "to do" list! |

Thank you so much! I'm stoked about the way it turned out. I finished the MFOS stereo panning mixer yesterday and it came out pretty great.
If you need any advice on the yusynth stuff I'd be happy to help. |
