I think calling it a "service Manual" might be several steps too far!
I looked at trying to get hold of the encoders, they seem to be some strange Chinese ones. Any idea of replacements? |

Well, as service manuals go, it is on the light side and with some missing stuff... Still, it's good of them to release the info.
The encoders used in the box are apparently Bourns PEC16 series. The schematics lists EC16 parts which seems to be some Chinese knock offs.
An Arturia forumite reported that the Arturia service dept. specifies a PEC16-4220F-S0024 for the big knob, so we just need to pick the same Bourns PEC16 parts fore the rest (detent/no-detent, push-button/no-push-button). Perhaps it's a good idea to compare carefully with the China EC16 parts and maybe verify with Arturia before ordering encoders.
I've compiled some info on the bits that may be the most needed spare arts or areas for modding:
LCD panel
Minor service maual issue: Incomplete, missing pages, file: "10_TECHNOTE_01 Defective inverter module replacement process.doc.rar"
Manufacturer: PVI (Prime View)
Type: PA050XS1
Info: http://www.panelook.com/PA050XS1_E%20Ink_5.0_LCM_overview_6814.html
Available from Amazon: Price: $111.15, In Stock
The CCFL backlight is specified to 50.000 hours lifetime, which is very good.
Possible mods:
- There are 4 versions of the same panel available with white LED backlight and other optical characteristics. This could improve readbility and reliability.
Rotary encoders:
Manufacturer: Bourns
Type: PEC16 series
(equivalents Chinese knock off series in the schematics, ala:
http://soundwell.en.alibaba.com/product/214463934-50044967/16mm_Rotary_encoder_EC162101ZXB_HA1.html)
Digital encoders with detent and switch (inc. the Big Knob):
EC162101E1B-HA1-24P5-FB200B120
(PEC16-4220F-S0024)
Digital encoders with detent and no switch:
EC162102E2B-HA1-24P5-FB200B120
(PEC16-4220F-N0024)
Digital encoders with no detent and switch:
EC162101E1B-HA1-24P0-FB200B120
(PEC16-4020F-N0024)
Info: https://www.bourns.com/ProductLine.aspx?name=contacting_encoders
Possible mods:
- Equivalent with better mechanical characteristics, although hard to find mechanically compatible devices.
Fan Controller:
Manufacturer: Linear Technology
Type: LTC1695CS5,
Info: http://www.linear.com/product/LTC1695
Speed control over I2C bus, 64 speeds.
Max fan rating of 5V, 180mA.
Fixed speed in Origin, only is SCL driven by FPGA, SDA connected to VCC.
The FPGA has pins for both SCL and SDA, but SDA isn't hooked up with a PCB trace.
The FPGA probably clocks in all 1s at boot time for max voltage of 4.93V.
Possible mods:
- Change fan for lower noise version.
- Lift LTC1695CS5 from PCB, take control over IIC speed control, e.g. using a tiny uC with temperature sensor. This could provide lower noise, and longer fan life.
