This was the first one I did not really have to do anything for ... except say:
Thank you Jake, PHOBoS, Steve, Jez and everyone who played and was in chat. It was a great event!

Thanks to everyone who organised, operated, performed and chatted! A wonderful event as always, with so much amazing music!
I had left a large amount of my set to chance, and spent a lot of the time panicking because things weren't working like I thought they should. I don't think I will try that again. Still, this mostly just meant that things went a bit slower, and I would have had a hard time filling the 30 minutes if they hadn't!
I had planned to improvise some singing along with guitar and pedal synth (a Waldorf Rocket controlled by a Roland PK-5A), and I wrote the text while listening to the performances before my own:
Quote: | Sleep well, little archive
I will wear you when I die
An apparent death in an analogue suit
My digital pants will rest with you
My sampled ghost will rest in you
Sleep tight, little digits
You live and die in fire
Ice keeps you forever
You will be remembered
Every decade or so
Every century, a new awakening
A re-invention
Remembering what it was like to be alive
What it used to be
What is now
Rest gently, little folder
Our memory will be full
Everyone gets a cell
Everyone a tight embrace
A personalized signature
A unique name
An exact coordinate
This is where we will find out
What frozen time is like
This is where your bed is made
In the dreaming machine
Larger than the universe
Closer than your beating heart
So slow
Sleep well, little god
We will take your eyes
There is nothing more to see
We will take your heart
There is nowhere left to go
You will have all the music
You will have all the words
You will have me

thanks everyone for your performances: those i was able to catch yesterday i enjoyed immensely, the others i will listen to later.
thanks also the to the stream operators and the entire electro-music.com community!
the soundscape i performed used the sample 'INDUSTRIAL Machine loop 1A rec 744 8040 TP.wav' from the 'HISSandaROAR Xmas Present' sample collection by Tim Prebble. (http://www.musicofsound.co.nz/blog/hissandaroar-xmas-present-holiday-competition
i used the inbuilt effects and sampler and the vast routing possibilities within cockos reaper.
wishing everyone a healthy, successful and musical 2015!

We couldn't find Ganzha so instead I played something that I recorded the night before
while testing the setup that was later used for the AcidTrasH performance
Thanks for all the great music and best wishes for 2015!

Here's my set. I am also posting the audio clip that I reused of a small piece of a 1973 talk by Leonard Bernstein on The Future of Music. This sound bite is reversed and heavily processed by Kyma in the first part of the recording. It is ironic in two ways: Bernstein emphasizes tonality in the opening, inherently atonal and chromatic section of the piece, but then the piece goes on to become tonal a la Berstein's suggestion, thereby contradicting the first irony, thus comprising the second irony.
Unlike pieces that start with a theme that decomposes along melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, timbral, or other dimensions, my idea with this piece was to start with the deconstruction and construct from there. The sound of the first section is inspired by the dark sounds of many dark looking sci fi movies and TV shows these days.
Thanks to everyone who worked and played so hard to put on this event. It gives me something special to look forward to, its own sort of holiday.

Here's the AcidTrasH set
line-up for this performance was: 1:11, Mateo, Jukka, PHOBoS and I think that David (from Fake Snake) was also playing.
We used ninjam, which crashed midway so it's in 2 parts.

I had a great time. Thanks everyone, especially the stream ops who were so available and kind. I did not anticipate the holiday buzz in the air and I was less able to listen to many performances due to other obligations throughout the day. I had much more time to chill and chat during the The Mars/Equinox event and sort of missed that this time around. Fortunately I see many sets being posted and I'm stoked to listen to them. I'll get mine up sometime soon. I haven't touched it yet, but the waveform looked like it was indeed recorded and my memory of it seems to keep me satisfied.

Thanks to all the great performers. I really enjoyed what I was able to listen to. I will be listening to everything I missed that gets posted, so please share your recordings.
Thanks to all the stream ops for taking time out of their day to switch for the event (Jez, Steve and PHOBoS).
And a special thanks to PHOBoS for all the extra help tying up loose ends. There was more to planning this event than I knew, and on top of it all I was feeling ill for most of the planning period. He helped take care of stuff I didn't know about, and I never even had to ask for the help |
