Hey all, just looking at these patches again and trying to wrap my head around exactly what's going on.

There's one version I found in the unofficial G2 manual - Rob's tutorials - and another I found in his patch collection: http://rhordijk.home.xs4all.nl/

Far as I can understand, the tone dial is a volume control for the filtered signal, which then blends it back in with the original. But when I remove the oscillator from the Chain on the mixer the tone dial moves from silence to filtered sound.

Why does he call them "allpass" filters?
They look like bandpass to me, what's the difference?

Why is the higher-frequency bandpass mixed lower?
I've played with it and see it doesn't work otherwise but I can't understand why.

Why does one example have the TONE control the VCA level and the other example use the TONE as the VCA input?
I swapped them and it doesn't seem to work the same way.

If the oscillator is removed from the Chain input on the mixer
and TONE controls the X-fade where nothing is plugged into input 1 of the X-fade the sound goes dead.
But if the oscillator is reconnected to the Chain input the sound starts again - totally confusing for me.

I think the example on the left is far more exciting than the one on the right.
Thanks so much for any considerations - it's a really amazing patch but I'd love to know why it's amazing.

The bandpass output doubles as an allpass output when in 6dB mode.
The allpass does not attenuate any frequencies but changes the phase of the signal. Mixing with the original gets you the notches of the classic phaser effect but you need two allpass in series for each notch.
