Getting into Modulars, longtime synthfreak, drummer.. |
 |
|
Hi I'm John and I live in the middle of the USA. I have been a drummer for most of my life, and have been into synths for quite a while. I have a minimoog d, a Roland SH-1 and CSQ-600 and Juno 60. I've owned many others but never owned a modular until.. A couple of months ago a friend showed me his brother's Aries Synth that had fallen into dis-use. I asked about it on the muff wiggler website and am in the process of getting it up and running. What a cool synth! The box it was in had 8 modules and keyboard and 7 of them work, but the keyboard I haven't gotten up and running yet. Was searching around today for anything Aries related and noticed Electro-Music has several members and posts about this topic, along with other related projects, etc. Then I noticed I hadn't introduced myself yet!
Hi I'm John ...! |

What is the problem with your Aries keyboard? The good news is that the Aries uses parts that are pretty standard. You should be able to get the keyboard up and running.
The first thing to check is the power supply leads and other leads that are soldered to the circuit board -- they tend to break off. _________________ -- Kevin

I think it could be the power supply to the keyboard. I have power coming from the plug that the keyboard plugs into, so I think the next thing would be to check the leads to the board on the keyboard. Not getting any CV from the outs. Also I am looking into what Sequencer project would be a good one for this. I almost got on board on the Muff Wiggler site to try to make a ARP1600 clone but I had doubts about 1) whether that would be a suitable sequencer project for the Aries; and 2) whether my skills were such that I could handle that project; and3) not sure if the jacks would be compatible with the 1/8 jax the Aries uses.
Sorry for the late response!Looking very forward to getting everything running. The Dual VCO, may need to have professional help.. |

The first thing to check is the power supply leads and other leads that are soldered to the circuit board -- they tend to break off. | OK I did indeed check the power leads they have a connector with 4 leads although there are 3, +15v, -15v, and ground. I plugged the connector and removed the shield on the keyboard side of it, and found the connector is messed up to the extent it doesn't connect. So I bridged them with alligator clips and then tried again. Now the Keyboard seems to work. That leaves one of the EG and most of the Dual VCO needing attention. Not sure if I should start another topic elsewhere.. |
