MIDI for MFOS SoundLab |
|
|
Wassup everybody!
I'm in the process of MIDIfying my small MFOS synths (SoundLab MiniSynth and MiniSynth mk II). Has anyone done that, and if yes: how did you connect the MIDI-CV/gate to your synth?
The original SLMS has 2 CV and 1 gate inputs, and the mk II a "keyboard CV" and a gate.
In case of the mk II, it seems simple enough: CV to CV, gate to gate -- perhaps via switched 1/4" jacks, so MIDI would be disconnected if a CV source was plugged in. Or would you rather use a voltage adder, so an analog CV (eg. from a sequencer) could be transposed via MIDI-CV?
Would you short-cut the two separate CV-inputs in the original SLMS for combined MIDI control or would you keep them separate (even separate MIDI channels)?
In short: How did you do yours?
Oh man, the world is falling apart, and I can't even decide how to connect a few stupid wires...

I did a MkII and used switched jacks so I could normal the Keyboard input to the MIDI CV out, and the gate input to the MIDI Gate out.
I could see the point of using two inputs though, should be simple enough to add another jack + resistor going to the summing node for CVs, then you could have the keyboard do transposition and the other input go to a sequencer or such. I would only normal the MIDI to one jack, of course, otherwise you'll double the input voltage |

Thanks, for your response.
The either-or-approach using a switched jack that disconnects MIDI when a CV connector is plugged in, seems the most reasonable way to go. I've got an MFOS front panel which includes those jacks so it makes sense to keep those connections. And as for the old SoundLab (mk I), I think I'll turn it into a MIDI-only synth.
It wasn't so hard to decide, after all, with a little help from my friends...
