Microwave individual out weirdness

I was highly confused today, when sound from my Waldorf Microwave was highly spurious. With some sounds it was consistent, I got a sound every 4th or every 8th note.

After some head-scratching I realized I had patched myself in on the individual outs, not the main outs: Problem solved.

But still, what's up with that? Any explanation for that behavior?

iirc the mW1 will cycle through the individual outs in Single mode, using a Multi patch properly set up will solve this.

it's all about the voice allocation.

in Single mode, it's allocating 8 voices of polyphony to 4 individual outputs. so, you 'should' hear the same note every 4th/5th time. we 'usually' play nonsense on the keyboard when testing, so 'usually' the one note we are trying to hear gets re-allocated to a different output and we are left scratching our heads, thinking our precious microWaves are broken.

in Multi mode you have almost total control over the outputs, not forgetting Unison. so it makes no sense to use the individual outputs in Single mode.
