Say we have a long sustained electric guitar going into the Andromeda's Ext Audio In jack. Is there a way to trigger the VCA + VCF with only the audio from the guitar (without sending MIDI to the Andromeda to trigger the VCA)

I see there's "Ext Trigger 1, 2" in Modulation sources, but I couldn't find anything to assign those too to trigger the VCA/VCF

Edit : I found this thread (http://analogue-heaven.1065350.n5.nabble.com/Andromeda-Ext-input-td8660.html) which indicates it's most likely not possible.

We can trigger the Filter on the Andromeda, but unless we can trigger the VCA as well, one has to send in "dummy" MIDI notes to the Andromeda to trigger the VCA to allow output from the VCF.

A way to make the "dummy midi notes" route easier is with BitWig -- they have a device which takes audio, and converts it to MIDI notes. REAPER's gater can also send MIDI Notes on Open/Close.
