Barring any new signups, I can do 60 minutes (vs. 30) starting at 00:00-01:00 providing there is op support.

It was a fun event last year and I'm looking forward to having another go around.

Cheers!

You can go there to see who switches when, what port you use etc.

Did something change here? The times don't look right, referenced to (spring time) daylight savings time, seemingly.

Just trust the ports for testing purposes and not the times. It was probably a quick way of showing everyone the port #'s without setting up the whole schedule (this one is based on the spring equinox show time-wise)

Yeah, those times can be incorrect. It should automatically adjust to your own timezone.
but I have noticed before it is sometimes of by an hour, which has caused some confusion
during previous events.

I can still adjust it when I am home if needed. Also made a slight edit to the switcher schedule, more work for Blue Hell
who was complaining he didn't have enough to do Wink And here is the full res vesion of the poster.

Gelukkig Nieuwjaar / Happy Newyear

My set .. and a screenshot of the Wren patch used. The patch did some genrative stuff and guitar processing .. used a bit of mic input as well. Basically it is two loops read out at different speeds. When a new sound comes in it replaces the loop contents, and otherwise it ... loops.

I would post the patch as well .. but erm .. heh .. it needs a Wren version not published yet Rolling Eyes

Subject description: Acoustic Interloper ZIM set
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Here's my Quantum Collage contribution. The levels are hottest at the start, so you may want to start with volume down. The levels vary according to section. I did not homogenize them. The quiet section requires concentration. Very Happy

During the weeks leading up to tonight I was soaking in the Ornette Coleman (ensemble) Free Jazz and John Coltrane (ensembles) Ascension and Meditations (in the "free jazz" vein), inspiring the first section.

The second section is Nechville Universal Meteor electric banjo with Ebow injected into the feedback loop with delays of the AXS-10 mixer, see the 3-ZIM-mixer photo earlier in this thread. There were two other mixer channels feeding back in this loop, with a 1.25 second delay and minimal within-effect feedback. When I damped the banjo, the other two channels would stutter into life. The banjo sounds a little like Strawberry Fields riffs in places. I imagine they ran a tape backwards to get that effect, but injecting Ebow electric banjo into the ZIM feedback path did it for me.

The tabla in the last section was inspired by listening to Miles Davis (ensemble) On The Corner recently. The tabla is an Applied Acoustics Systems (AAS) physical model, bundled with Live (I think), haven't seen it until the latest version of Live. I use their MIDI-driven physical model synths in other pieces, but this was driven by the Yamaha ZIM, which I filtered in Live using a granular delay and an 8-tap EQ to post-process pitch range and limit spikes. The AAS model is fairly complicated to excite satisfactorily; learning to massage the ZIM excitation signal was probably the most practice-laden (read: trial & error) part of prepping. I actually used 2 AAS models in parallel, set to different time signatures to get a polyrhythm, followed by a stereo delay set to different meters on the channels to make it more polyrhythmic. The AXS-10 was driving a different stereo bus in Live using time-varying panning and pulsed granulation to set up yet another counter-beat. There were also various phasers and reverb in these channels, all post-ZIM, but all dependent on the 3 ZIMs for driving signals. Cut off the ZIMs, and all would fall silent.

I recorded a bunch of my prep sessions, because playing this thing is so probabilistic that I wanted to make sure to get at least 1 good take. I went back & listened to what I had considered the best previous take from 2 days ago. Tonight's live performance is better. This piece was always about rough edges.

I also stumbled into another aspect of the old overprep-versus-underprep continuum, getting ready for this. Usually it's just overpracticedToThePointOfStale-versus-underpracticedToThePointOfSloppy. What I found with these ZIMs, though, is that given the fact that they are stochastic generators, you never get the same piece twice, and so what you practice is *exploring the stochastic space*, rather than practicing the piece itself. The focus of the practice sessions is to get better at bumping into good stuff and mining it on the fly. I am sure that is true for any good improviser.

Happy New Year, ya'll. Thanks to everyone who organized & ran the event, performed, and listened. I am excited to hear the performances that I had to miss on the stream due to the normal other things to do. I did get to hear quite a lot. Cool

Great stream everyone!
Happy New Year!
I hope folks enjoyed my little last minute surprise set Smile
Got to showcase some material off my latest album Disrupt The Scene as well as some unreleased tracks.
It was a blast closing things out and chatting with folks into the night.
For the folks that stuck around for the set, I hope you enjoyed the little present of exclusive tracks I gave you in the chat room. Wink
The response to the unreleased stuff in my set inspired me to throw them up on my Bandcamp instead of keeping them locked away.
Thanks for having me!

Hi all Smile

Had a great time yesterday listening to excellent synth work over the event.

Here is the Epicyclus (& D.O.C.) NYE 2015 into 2016 set.

I used the diy modular system & MFoS Orange bass synth & the Red ASM-2 diy synths , the 909 & cynare sections of the yellow drum synth mixed with some standard rock kit sounds from an Alesis SR16 (old faithful) , Korg X5 for strings & things , Roland Juno-60 for pad sounds and the Waldorf pulse v1 for some arpeggio sounds.

Also at the end of the set is a track from the forthcoming new D.O.C. album, a promo treat for anyone who has held a soldering iron & likes diy drum synths Wink .

If you missed the set on the day , please enjoy the upload.

Thanks to all involved during the event Smile Smile

Dave.

Thanks again to the stream ops for all of their diligence, hard work and digital babysitting. So awesome.

I got to listen for good 4 or 5 hours earlier in the show. I enjoyed it all.

I'll get a track post up later today.

This rings so true. For me the rigs and control schemes I build are inherently stochastic, not because they are complicated or hold randomness, but because I'm running it on the fly and can't fit it all in my head anyway! It's like being a pimplefaced teenager taking driving lessons in a Lamborghini. Always entertaining. The real challenge is to listen hard, and play with what I hear, and not what I think should hear, should have heard, or should be hearing next. To be in it with no notion of evaluation, censorship or ego. It is extremely challenging when I set that bar, but it's the exact thing that forms the allure.

Here they are. I used Usine Hollyhock as the VST host, the Korg M3, a Kontakt piano, Signal, AAS UltraAnalog VA-2, Omnisphere, Echoloop, Lexicon M30 verbs, Focusrite Red 3 compressor and a Focusrite Midnight EQ I believe.
