Would you like the octave shift button behave differently?
Yes, make the send transposed midi notes but no CC17

The G2's implementation of the octave shift buttons is somehow different from the NL3's:

The NL3's slot octave shift does not send and receive CC17 on midi, but sends transposed notes. The G2 does send and receive CC17 (but ironically not on the global channel!), but does not transpose the notes.

I prefer the NL3's behaviour: when I do an octave shift, the notes currently playing are not affected (continue sounding in their original pitch). Only notes hit after the octave has been shifted sound in the new pitch.

And there's another thing that annoys me: With the G2, every time I press stop on Cubase, it resets the Midi CCs, and my slot's octave settings are destroyed. Having the Controllers resetted is an option I can disable in Cubase (globally, i.e. for all Midi devices), but usually it's practical to have them resetted (Modwheel, Pitchbend, etc.).

Another option would be to disable (some of) the "hardwired" Midi-CC.

I don't have an NL3, but the octave shift buttons seem to work fine for me. AFAIK, they just effect notes played on the keyboard. I usually use the SHIFT-OCTAVE-KEY mode because it doesn't change notes that are sounding when you press the OCTAVE SHIFT keys. I may not be a great person to give feedback on this because I don't use MIDI much with the G2.
