I am relatively new to this site but I build about 5 synths a year. They vary in complexity with some being simple and some downright nutty. They are all build as 'formatless' sculptures whereby they are modular in a sense that the can all work together if you wanted, you could build most of the circuits to a format, or they can work with many other synths, both commercial or DIY. They are more likely musical sculptures that can be played if you like. I play them with other like minded artist and musicians in free form sessions.

For my last build of 2016 I wanted to do something to commemorate all the inspiration people like Ray Wilson have given me. I never met, nor talked to ray but I do hold him as a 'silent mentor' and his work has motivated many of my efforts. There are many of you on this site that have also provided inspiration, knowledge and direction. I generally don't use PCBs and build from vector board and wire. I have however, bought a couple of the VCO projects from folks on this site and use them as a 'known reference' for other projects. Also, many of the components are salvaged from consumer electronics or repurposed materials

Thank you Ray and everyone here who advances knowledge.

The project link is here (and contains a demo video link)

Very original look, some braided patch cables like on the analogue phone exchanges would go well with it.

Thanks for the nice comments and awesome idea. I thought of making some cables. I found a guy on eBay selling wire from an old spool of unused Northern Telecom wire. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/201613338945?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

In the summer, while walking through an antique barn in Norther Ontario, I found a box of 40" telephone operator patch cables from the early 1940s. Never used. They are red and black. Picked them up for just a few bucks. The connectors are different though, so I do not know if I want to destroy them to put on the 1/4" audio plug.

Beautiful, dare I say, steam punk looking synth.

I would love to see more of your projects.

That looks a great deal like the really, REALLY old test equipment, from before the invention of plastics and bakelite.

Beautiful thing, that.
