Subject description: AI set, Shingles' End |
|
|
Attached is my solo set for the NYE 2016-2017 Acoustic Interloper piece Shingles' End.
The first 10 minutes are the Godin xtSA guitar synth plugged into the normally-zero-input mixer feedback loops of the Yamaha MG124cx and Galaxy Audio AXS-10 mixers, making this a one-input mixer movement. What is the sound of one input mixing? Also used a NUX "Mode Core" fx pedal in the feedback loop of the Yamaha mixer in places, with phaser set to stun, Christmas present from Jeremy. The synth output from the guitar fed a bass voice (octave drop) in a Roland GR33 guitar synth that also fed the Yamaha mixer. Post-mixers processing in a granular delay in Live, with wet/dry and pitch shift controlled by feet controllers. This section represents the static pain and itching of shingles virus.
At 10 minutes starts the Nechville electric banjo, fed into some delays in Live. Three soft synths from Applied Acoustics (2 Chromaphone patches and a String Studio 2 bass patch) and some MIDI fx (periodic time & pitch small-randomization in Live) supply the rhythm section, driven by a MIDI sequence set to my finger-picking accent pattern in G Mixolydian, which is used a lot in Appalachian Mountain music & also modal jazz. I didn't use the synth output from the Nechville. The electric signal feeds through some delays in Live.
At 25 minutes fades into 2 samples of me playing Linda's 4-string Appalachian dulcimer (lap dulcimer), which transitions into my rhythm section via time stretching, pitch shifting, and a phasing effect in Live to generate the beats. I play the Bart Reiter acoustic banjo with a wooden resonator around the tone ring (acts like an EQ) through a fast delay in Live to give me reverb. I hate Live's reverbs, always use a fast ping-pong delay with about 33% wet and 33% feedback to get reverb that I like.
Thanks to Jan for switching me, and to all the stream operators, musicians, and listeners. THANKS for this opportunity. Happy New Year.

Thanks all for the music and for the opportunity to play!
This was my first time up there so there was so much to
get going I didn't record my set, did anyone else?
For the record you heard the Wiard/Serge droning,
second drone with PLLs driven by Werkstatt,
Tiesco guitar with Just intonation neck looping on DL4.
Would have liked to include some sequencing with codebug,
it's crashing on me after about five minutes.
Will have more working next year. |
