so i got the solution for not getting any audio.

"No PortAudio DLL found"

i'm using win 10 x64

this is probably caused by direct conflict with other asio driver
i uninstaled FL Studio asio ,and after restarting wren ,portaudio was found, and i could choose MME, DirectSound ,ASIO

only ASIO (asio 4 all) works in my system, i couldnĀ“t get any sound with mme, directsound etc.

this is a bummer, because fl studio driver is a must for listen to Youtube while playing in FL Studio.

it seems that wren is detecting fl studio asio first ,instead of asio 4 all.

Is there any solution to keep both asio drivers?

thank you.

Wren is not detecting anything .. it uses PortAudio to do so .. when it says that the port audio dll could not be found it may be that it just could not start ithe DLL... is FL using port audio as well?

You could try to find out about this using process explorer ... https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/processexplorer

Meanwhile I (finally) got my hands on a win 10 computer - but it did not give me any problems at all.

No,Fl Studio doesn't use portaudio,it uses Windows Primary Sound Driver (DirectSound)and asio driver (ASIO, ASIO4all, FL Studio ASIO)

FL ASIO driver is built around WASAPI.

i also found that if i start flstudio leave it open (with asio4all selected, directsound doesn't do the trick)and start wren, portaudio displays all drivers .

if i dont do this step, all fields in the settings(wren) are blank because (acording to the log)portaudio couldn't get initialized.

from the log:

Ok, thanks for that information.

I've made a new version which shows a little more debug information in case PortAudio plays up (see attached zip).

Can you please try it and give the log results here?

Hopefully that will give some insight.

Ok, in that run it really could not find the PortAudio DLL then - it must be in the same folder as the wren exe file ..

Looks like you only put the exe in a new folder .. as many files are not found ... the idea was to copy the new wren into the same folder the old one was in (maybe renaming the old one first) - it is not a complete set of files that I put up here.

Weird .. that can only happen when the DLL crashes in the initialization function .. and does not return an error code .. in which case .. I have no idea why it goes wrong - yeah well .. some driver issue it does not catch properly.

Sorry about that Confused

Oi Jan, this is not wren related but this reminds me a lot.. Sounds to me like multiple audio software are fighting over driver.. This kind of things happens to me whenever i have more than 1 audio software open and don't switch back to the driver it was by default in the 2nd software before closing it.. Again this is not wren related although it happened to me in lots and lots of audio software...

Might be totally wrong but this my gut instinct Smile
If this is the case, a idea that springs to mind as a solution is:

When Wren is minimized, it lets go of the drivers.. And when open it uses it just like it already does.. Although i've been thinking of potential problems if doing that is even possible, and the only thing that i can remember now is when recording/render in wren for longer periods might want it to be minimized other than that i can't think of something..

@SergioFrias
Try doing the following above, and see if it makes a difference
