I stumbled over an interesting post, here, on electro-music.com about triangles and hunters and a swan, and decided to give it a try myself.

After adding a turtle to it for drawing the maze to be used by the hunters I ended up with a module for this for Wren. I've made the turtle to draw a rose for me .. well sort off .. the rose has three and five fold symmetry mixed, but instead of three I've used six .. but at least the image looks a bit like a rose ...

I've made a lil noodle patch with it, and thought it to be weird enough to post a recording of it here ... with the five and six fold symmetry it ends up using 5tet and 6tet intermingled. These intervals are also used for the timing.

Here is an image of the patch, with it's two roses.

I enjoyed that recording, thanks for posting. The math and stuff is beyond me, but it's all quite interesting.

Thanks for listening.

And yes, I have found it to be very interesting.

Fiddling a bit now to see what sort of images are interesting. I had thought that the idea could be used to start from something random (dropping in hunters at random locations) to go to something orderly ... not really hearing that yet .. maybe when I'd make a "scare hunters" input .. to re-randomize their positions .. anyway, still things to try!

It took me a minute to get into the tunings, but once I did it became very beautiful.

Thanks Rob.

Just discovered the scaling to be waaay off from what was intended Shocked with the intervals being 1/6 of what they should have been .. fm attenuators at 24 map a [0,1] range into an octave .. had set them to 4 tho.

I need a proper manual for that synth, I had to recalculate it all from the code Laughing

I may do some other recordings of the same patch with different mazes and proper settings, it has some nice sounds regardless the tuning Smile

A rerecording ...

I've made a few changes to the patch, one of them being to change the tuning to what was originally intended. Made maze modulation on the SwanSong module and made a module to modulate over a chosen subset only. Also made a couple of new mazes.

The subset chosen was :

Penrose

Rose

Played in that order, each for about five minutes.

The patch was like (with a time base set to about 25 minutes) :

And here is the recording :

Rose II is a nice listen, too!

So these rose, penrose, kochanti, etc. shapes are considered mazes, right? I guess there's a mathematical definition involved.

The lines are the paths, which is the opposite of how I used to draw them when I was a kid. In 2004 I revisited that when I did a limited-edition CD-R of music for which I drew 20 different (solvable) mazes for the covers. Here's an example of one, and is typical of my style. I wonder what this one would sound like!

Thanks James.

Yes mathematical defined paths, maybe maze is not the right word as there are many possible paths ... defined by stuff like this and unfortunately I can not load arbitrary pictures or otherwise I'd have tried your maze.
