Hiall, I hope this is in the right space for this post. I apologize that my first post is a repair one but if anyone has any solutions it's greatly appreciated

Over the summer I finally got around to converting my Soundlab min synth to banana jacks instead of switches. unfortunately there are some issues that I am still working through as I am learning how to read diagrams. I will first clarify that the Housing for the synth is a faceplate made of masonite and it is housed in a tupperware container. The main issue is that the synth emits an intense ground hum. the Hum also gets worse when I hook up a sequencer or a my mocante. I recently put some signal in jacks where the instructions said too and they are apparently not grounded. I soldered all the grounds together and everything connects to the main ground portion on the PCB.

would I need to copper tape the faceplate and the container to make a better connection? and will I need to solder this to the ground? or is this an inevitability of the housing?

Also if anyone has converted their mini synth to banana, do they have any insight into how to wire the VCA as currently when I turn it up all functions are always on when I turn it up.
I apologize again for this post but any and all help is truly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome
no apologies needed here, really!

Lets start with some Questions.

-the Hum was not there before? only as you changed to banana?

-Something else has also changed in your equipment?

-which kind of power source you use?

-did you use filter Capacitors? like it is pointed out there: Sound Lab Mini-Synth PLUS Schematic Page 5 http://musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth_new/SOUNDLABMINISYNTH_PLUS/images/SLMS-Plus%20Page%205_schem.gif

-you wrote about your sequencer and mocante? do the use they same powersource?

-your frontpanel is non-conducting i recomment strongly to ground the potentiometer-cases,
elkayem wrote here http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-69430.html that Ray himself suggested to put (may glue) alu-foil on the back of the front panel,
me personally often scratch a spot on the surface of the pot case, to get rid of the metal protection layer, and solder a wire on that spot

cheers, gabbagabi

hi again,

if: -the Hum was not there before? only as you changed to banana? - is the case, i would test first to connect ALL GND of your devices, which is btw almost always needed.
