Sound Semiconductor has recently released new versions of the SSI2144 4-pole vc filter IC, and the SSI2164 quad VCA IC in SMT sizes. From their site:

"When Ron Dow founded Solid State Music in 1975 - also known as Solid State Micro Technology or simply "SSM" - little did he know the iconic stature it would carry today. Early chips helped fuel growth of electronic music instruments that have since become commonplace in popular music. SSM later pioneered integration of key professional audio building blocks such as mic preamps, balanced line drivers and receivers, VCA's, and analog switches . Fast forward to today. Analog synthesis has experienced a renaissance and pro audio continues to need affordable, high performance application-specific IC's. We're former SSM staffers who are passionate about carrying the original vision forward.

First up was the SSI2144 Fatkeys™ Four-Pole Voltage Controled Filter, an improved re-issue of the famed SSM2044 that many believe to be the best-sounding analog synthesis filter chip ever produced. And we just introduced the SSI2164 Fatkeys™ Quad VCA that offers top-tier performance at an unprecedented cost-per-channel.

More's on the way. We're just getting started..."

We're happy to be stocking these as we hope and expect they'll lead to a new generation of modular synth designs !!
