Hello World Subject description: About to take the plunge |

Hello world,
Songs I love are too few and far beween so I’ve decided I’ll have to take things into my own hands by attempting to my own music, but I’m wondering if this is possible without being able to play an instrument? I took piano lessons for awhile and really enjoyed it, but I didn’t resume the lessons when I returned from traveling, so I didn’t get very far (though I’m considering taking lessons again). So here are some questions I have:
1) If I make up a melody and fumble around on the piano for awhile trying to play it into the computer program, (I’m thinking of using Logic for Mac?) does the program have an option to “correct” my poor playing? That is, make the notes all the right length relative to one another? If I play something on the piano, can it transpose the music I played into notes on virtual sheet music where I can then edit the notes by hand as it were?
2) For my first project, I’d like to try to make songs like the 80s synth tracks from Stranger Things. What’s a good way to go about this for someone just starting out?
3) Should I take DeadMau5(sp?) online class that I saw advertised on YouTube?
Otherwise a little more about my musical tastes: I recently discovered the song Step by Vampire Weekend and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Other recent artist discoveries that I like are a band called Kite; a song called NOVA by VNV Nation. Longer love affairs: I really like the song We Own the Sky be M83 and for older songs one of my all time favorites is Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Anyway, any tips or suggestions anyone has for someone starting out making music on a computer is greatly appreciated! I’m considering buying an m-audio midi controller as well. |

Hmmm.... Strange no one else has replied to this post so far. I myself don't play any instruments at all currently. Although I did play the keyboards in the past. Today however one doesn't need to know how to play any instruments at all in order to make electronic music.
It's more about mixing different sounds or loops together in order to come up with some music. Also it's about knowing how to adjust the tempo, pitch and even distort the sound of a particular loop in order to make it sound different.
My advice is to try soundtrap.com.
Here you can try out different loops and even import loops from other sites.
I download some and upload them here to make my recordings.
They also have a big selection of loops there also, although some are available only for premium membership.
This site is easy to use and great for beginners. |
