Anyone want to host a Latency Jam on Friday Night 03.27 ?

A few non-regulars are interested in trying it out. _________________ ElectroCasa |

I'd do it, but also, I'd like 'new' people to find their own way(s) for jamming with the 'primitive' means available for it .. for instance, there was an idea by Dr. Steve to not do the 'classical' latency jam but to do a 'ring jam' instead,, which would have another 'control structure' and would allow for 'rhytmic music' to be improvised.

So what do we have .. a large set of ports that people can connect to for streaming their 'sounds'. Also we should, I think, assume people to have a setup in which they can receive and transmit something else mixed with what was received, or an alteration of what was received. There is no apriori synching mechanism available.

What is possible within such constraints? _________________ Jan

also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.

or, basically, I would like to not impose my 'rules' on it (which in the 'classical latency jam' would be inevitable) _________________ Jan

I like the ideas!

I think NINJAM is what would be needed for the rhythmic element. I have not used it, but listened to people using it and it's quite fantastic. It does allow users to interlock rhythmically, harmonically, etc.

It is available as one of the stock plugins inside Reaper. _________________ ElectroCasa |

I'm happy to host something, as long as it doesn't get too late for me (late meaning past midnight GMT).

I was also thinking at some point in the past that droning (in a key) would be easy to do. Or we could assign notes to people - everyone's only allowed to use two given notes for example. There are lots of ideas from Steve Reich and other avant guardists too.

Or we could have If -> Then rules based on what happens outside your window. Or, or... just jam. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

I believe that I may be able to participate in a latency jam.

I configured my system so that I can monitor the stream while sending to the stream. I presume that I send ONLY my content and not mix it with the stream's content, correct?

I can see how the latency would not allow for rhythmic jamming. If there is a version of NINJAM that runs on an old Macbook Pro ( 10.6.8 ) then I should be able to set it up (I run Cubase which supports AISO).

Will my current setup support latency jamming? Thanks for your help! _________________ -- Kevin

There's another one tonight. Last night was more of a proof of concept. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

There have been some problems with the chat room so it's hard to coordinate them for the moment.

Once that's sorted I'm happy to do more though. There's also some work being done on alternative ways to mix streams which looks promising. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

In the past these jams happened more or less spontaneous - or at least that's how I remember it.

I'm happy to be in the chat as much as possible tomorrow (Saturday) in case there's an interest, but I won't announce it for now. I'm flexible though, so if anybody wants to have a set time let me know in the chat or in this thread.

Stay safe and sane. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum
