I recently watched a video tutorial about mixing music. Well, there are gazillion of such videos out there, and I merely watch some for fun. The one I picked this time was making its point on not overdoing it, not throwing in all the EQ, Filter, Limiter etc. one owns, but to carefully find the right balance between all instruments involved. And he recommended one easy test: head bobbing. So when you are listening to your song and your head keeps bobbing to its flow, you got the mix right. Now, it's a bit oversimplifying, but I can live with the "if it feels right, it is right". At least for you it is. And following this advice, I chose to have several tracks tonight to test the head bobbing thesis. So best to pick up your favourite headphones, and start bobbing with Stefan Erbe (Nachtlichter), Youth & Gaudi (Astronaut Alchemists Remixes), Sonic Jay (Digital Family Vol. Cool, Javiis (Reality), Nikavo (Yummy Miami), K.I. Companion (Music for Cars).

U.F.O.s! No, not really. As there are very few airplanes around recently, those bright shining and fast moving objects to be seen at the night sky a few days ago were very eye-catching. A chain of sattelites crossed our hemisphere and made lots of people wonder. And they really appeared to be very fast, well, meant for high speed internet, that's why. Haha. Ok, seriously. What would it be like to live on such a sattelite or the ISS for a while? I'd guess mostly quiet and peaceful? Or would there be lots of debris pelt against the hull making it sound like hard rain hitting the roof of ones home? Well, I am sure one would find some comfort in listenting to some music of tonight's edition. But no need to rocket into space, you can listen comfy sitting in your favourite chair. Have some ambient moments with tracks by Jarguna (The Morning Star), Mäläskä (First Day of Spring), Bernhard Wöstheinrich (Wishes Follow One), Eisenlager (Anime Comp), Cousin Silas & Glove of Bones (Cousin Silas & Friends Vol. 8 Pt. 1), Whalt Thisney (Quiethism).

Last weekend, we had a fantastic online live show with ATB sending from the Planetarium of Bochum. Quite a number of artists are going "on-air" this way recently to entertain and get in contact with their fans and audience. On the other hand, several live events had to be cancelled for this year. Watching a live stream surely is great, but not the same. Still, I and I think many others enjoyed the show. And there is another one coming up tomorrow (that is May 2nd) with Stefan Erbe doing a premiere stream on his album Nachtlichter. And surely we have several more fresh releases these days to celebrate and listen to, some of which you will get listening to tonight's podcast edition. Chilling times are on with tracks by Yaary & Scholl (Delta Evolution), Juli Morán (LibitVm), IcingWolf (From Inside), Backstage Gurus (Mediterranean Odyssey), Stefan Erbe (Nachtlichter).

When thinking about tonight's edition, I coincidentally stumbled upon the photo used as teaser. It depicts quite perfectly the association to the music picked for this show. Cyberpunk is a genre that mixes modern technology with an adventurous age. The stories told are most gripping and fascinating, providing a playfield for the most unusual inventions in a not so technological advanced time of history spiced with todays knowledge of the possible and beyond. Kind of the same holds for modern takes on traditional electronic music, as you will get to hear. One can think of it as the artists looking back on the golden ages of the 70s and 80s and having their take on a historic musical view with modern knowledge. The time travellers telling their stories tonight are Remy (The Other Side), Space Art (Entrevues), Lisa Bella Donna (Portals), The Garwin Project, TM Solver (Oxymoron).

There is a saying that some people cannot seen beyond the end of their nose. Well, for music, would the limit be the helix of their ear? However, when I started syndae back in 2008, it was about musical styles from within my comfort zone. Meanwhile, for once I broadened my own taste in sound but also sometimes visit the outer rim of ambient and electronic music that is well known to me and people I know. Tonight, I am up for some sounds and rhythms you do not hear that often on my show. And it's also great as I like a change in style so the show stays interesting and actually my mind visits different places. Well, it's no radical change tonight and definitely very cool music by Weldroid & Room of Wires (The Deep Blue Knight), Amotken (Life's a Glitch), Ombra Obscvra (La Nit Eterna), Ben Cox (Consciousness, and Other Tricks of the Light), Erratic (Acre, Aged 10), Soul Flask (The Cassandra Complex).

Trees are fascinating creatures, none like the other but still the same. A tree takes several years to grow and its blossoms come and go. Some even exist for hundreds, some rare ones several thousand of years. Imagine being a tree that old having seen the world around you change quite a lot. Well, a tree does not see much of the world though, as it does not move. But it would be fascinating anyway. Why am I talking about trees? No particular reason, actually. Ambient music, however, does share some features with trees. For once, an ambient track usually grows over time, it simply takes a while until it unfolds and shows its beauty. Unlike popular music which quickly shows its hooks and lines repeatedly, as if to get over with it. So, this edition does not provide quick and busy stuff but evolutionary aural journeys in form of tracks by Blue is Nine (A Pool Appears), Mark Seelig (The Disciple's Path), Anantakara (Serenity Despite the Storm), Michael Brückner (Servant of the Secret Fire).

So, last time I was talking about trees and ambient music. There is another style of electronic music that is quite similaro with respect to building up its beauty: traditional electronic music of Berlin School. These simply take their time to come to a point, or multiple points. And often times with sound arcs not to be expected. Well, if we are back to trees, you can see them bend and twisted occasionally and usually never growing straight up. Long lasting sequences build the thread here on which you get hooked. And most of tonight's tracks are excerptional due to their extensive length. Take all of them, provided by Ivan Black (Our Drowning World), Elrox (Era), Bob Hedger (2020 Karma Cafe Jam Sessions Vol. 1), RadioSilence (RadioSilence III), Fratoroler (Different).

Recently, I have been at the coast for a short vacation. It was quiet at first, as going for journeys just has started again after lockdown. So great to have a change in scenery after all these months. My wife and I enjoyed the nature and the sea up in the north eastern part of Germany, at least until the hords rolled in to the end of our time up there. Still, people seem to be tense. Surely because of the strange times we are in. And actually, it's not as difficult as in other places. Looking out in the world, some things are not right. Some people seem to have the impression to be more important than others. And there is no justification for hatred at any time. As one of my favourite novelists puts it: Everybody counts or nobody counts. So, stay safe, my dear friends in sound, in health and everything else. As of this show, for your mental well-being, you get very much enjoyable music served by Ben Blackett (Portals), John Gregorius (Full of Life), Divine Matrix (Helios), Ian Boddy (Behind the Sky Presents: Portals), Eleon (Rendezvous), Catalin Marin (Art of Darkness).

So I followed a competition recently on scoring a pursuit scene of Westworld season 3. Lots of composers uploaded their take to that famous video platform. And I must be crazy to watch the scene over and over again, only the score being different. After a while I knew the lines by heart, and it got difficult to follow through. To me it seems very difficult to compose music for a film, having to see scenes over and over and over to match the music to the films details. And only few of the compositions did so, some failed big time to match the scene's cuts or impressions at all. But I was impressed on the sheer variety of approaches to making the music work with the story. Unfortunately I was to late to try myself. It still reminded me of how I work on music, listening to short sequences repeatedly for hours to get the details right, so it sounds good to me, like I want it to be. Of course, only until a few days later when I find some new details to change. Maybe, I will never get done with it. Well. Some great musicians did and put out their music as album, single, or contribution to a compilation. Six of them made it to tonight's edition. Have a great time with music by Der Waldläufer feat. BaoBao (Inyourmind), Myth (History of Life), This Digital Landscape (Waveform Magazine Issue 3), Tangram (Ether), moonbooter (Elected Pieces 2012 to 2020), Nubrada (Pote 3).

The big rollout is about to start again. It's vacation time and timely restrictions on travelling were lifted recently. Is this a happy time? I don't know, yet. Maybe, I am too cautious and conservative. Or am I just more careful than others? It seems to be true with respect to health issues, but what about music? As you know, I do like to have some more experimental stuff on the show. Sometimes. Well, maybe rather rarely. Indeed, I prefer harmonic and melodic sounds. This not necessarily has to be exclusive. The albums presented tonight are somewhat in between. Mostely harmonic, but sometimes with a little spark of twinkling surprises. Have some aural fun with tracks by Scott Reich (Interbeing: Elements of Connection), Xenoton (Crescent), Jarguna & Henrik Meierkord (Tapestry Flow), Ivan Teixeira (Strength of Spirit), Jack Hertz (Artificial), radium88 (Until the Last Leaf Falls).

What is time exactly? Is it a dimension like with space? It's often said that time is a precious good. But it is no good. You cannot collect time, cannot save time, cannot borrow time or buy it. Although, there are lots of phrases telling one you could. Is it possible to travel in time? Who knows. There are several theories what time travel would mean, like that each choice opens a new timeline, so you could switch between them. I love movies and stories about time travel. But in the end, you are a time traveller indeed. Also, there is only one direction and a constant, non-modifiable speed: always going forward. Well, ok, there is Einstein telling you that time will slow down, when you hit lightspeed. And it's said that speed of time depends on gravity. Well, we're not in space on a daily basis, yet. Currently, it's rather a matter of what you do during the time you experience as life. One great thing to do, is to listen to music. Especially, if it is as good as the tracks you will hear on syndae. For example the ones on this show by Jim Ottaway (When Eternity Touches Time), Obukhovaudio (Orphans of the Sky), The Garwin Project (E-Scape 2020), Bob Hedger (2020 Karma Cafe Jam Session Vol. 3), and Wolfgang Nachahmer (Triptychon).

Weekend. Time to celebrate or simply turn the world off for a while and simply enjoy the silence. On this edition you will meet the latter with excellent ambient sounds and rides. Actually, one of the most serene editions for a long time. And with all those strange things happening around the world in these times, I'd say that taking some time off and getting lost in ones own mind is a great alternative. Well, ok, I do talk. But hopefully not too disturbing. If so, you can easily visit the artists' and labels' sites and fetch copies of the albums presented, which are by Sam Rosenthal & Jarguna (Sunwashed Evening Fire), Cousin Silas (Emporium Sampler), Shinpal (Momentary Disappeared Memory), Forest Robots (After Geography), Howard Givens & Craig Padilla (The Bodhi Mantra).

I am currently stuck in home office. Which is nice, as I save an about one hour daily drive to work. But I just realized that I listen to at least one hour less music each day now. Actually, in the past weeks, there is not so much music in my life, if it weren't for compiling a podcast. I assume that I am not the only one, as many people stay more at home now and especially music parties or events simply do not happen at the moment. What are all these DJs doing currently? Switching to Vidcasting? Well, as said, luckily there is syndae. So I have to take some time off to listen to music. The force is strong on this one. So let's have some fun tonight with the right speed of beat, listening to tracks by Bruit Blanc (La moitié de moi), Zen Racoon (Pote 3), Youth & Gaudi (Astronaut Alchemists Remixes), Spintribe (Zephyr), Hynamo (Baba Juno).

Where do we come from? Where do we go? What is our purpose? Some questions often asked and maybe answered, especially in philosophical and religous views. To me, this question is a difficult one. If it is the right question at all to be asked. Maybe there will be some mighty artificial intelligence one day, whom the question is given. It may take some million years to get a response, and then it might come clear that the question was wrong and the answer is of no use. Ok, ok, one might see the reference here. But AI can do amazing things right today. Well, and may be used for shenanigans. Like an music creating algorithm. Would that be actual electronic music then? Or paintings, like the teaser image for this show. Well, the music of tonight is still hand made. Enjoy the wonderful tracks by Ethnicalvibes feat. Mayura (Ethnostep 10), Backstage Gurus (Mediterranean Odyssey), Trackologists feat. Cosmic Noise Crew (Seventh Listen), Bristol Manor (Down Time), Code Indigo (E-Scape 2020), Stan Dart (Murinsel III).

Some of you might have read about the dilemma for syndae regarding music licensed via the rights collective GEMA. They changed the license in a way that I can no longer have music on the show that is licensed by many such organizations all around the globe. This includes some well known artists in electronic music. I am still looking for a solution to this, as it would be a pity for the show, the artists and you as listener. Maybe there is no solution? Well, I am open for suggestions. So let me know, if you have an idea how to handle this issue. Tonight's edition is save, though. All the music is by independent artists who publish their music via netlabels. Yes. It's the first about the Netlabel Day. To calm down from the licensing shock, I chose rather ambient tracks. But, you know, even ambient is quite diverse. So have a great time with music by Harueda Mizu (Desert Song), Teeth of Divine (ReAct I: ReGenesis), Enrico Falbo (Planktón), Whaltthisney (Thisintoxica), Skeleton Hand (Dumb Sounds Vol 4 (Green)).

And the thinking goes on how to handle the change in licensing. Would be OK to have syndae as stream only? How do you listen to syndae? Do you download and listen later? Do you listen via the website? Or some other way? Let me know. Either in comments or by mail. I am currently looking at Mixcloud, which I use as second channel for a while now. Do you know it? Any experiences you can share? Let me know! But let's get back to the music. Netlabel day special part 2 tonight, with more cool free music. Many artists published music that day, not all of them suitable for syndae. Last week we had the quiet ones. This time, it's the rhythmic edition with excellent tracks by D_Smoker (Hot Trax), Olympic (Pequeño Cosmos), Jack_Plug (Rehacer), pl8 (Special Tape Compilation), SMOK (Brain Damage), Terranigma (Access Frame: Equity).

Do you know the term filter bubble? It's quite a phenomenon of modern times. Not only do you build your social environment with people you have lots in common. But modern technology, like search engines and social media, analyse you and your preferences. This way, mostly things are brought to your attention, which you like and which correspond to your views. It's nearly impossible to escape your own bubble nowadays, especially with artificial intelligence being everywhere for your benefit. Quite astounding. So, if you want to know of things outside your filter bubble, to get to know different views, always be open to others and other opinions. Oh, do not mistake this as a call to "wake up". Not every statement counts as an opinion. As well as science not being a question of believe. But I am trailing off. Tonight's edition is one of those to break your bubble. Namely the one of your listening habits. Join me for half an hour of really interesting and cool tracks by Pandacetamol (A Different Place), Tomoroh Hidari (小さな夢達), Jack Hertz (Artificial), radium88 (Until the last leaf falls), AnalogX, and Record of Tides (Black Album).

Yes, the die is cast. This is the very first edition of syndae that is streaming only. I hope you are still enjoying the show. Its full description with all bling bling will still be on syndae.de, including a player framed via Soundcloud. But you will also find the podcast on Mixcloud. And maybe still fed into iTunes, if I did that one right (let me know if I didn't). Anyway, I want to use this edition to say thanks to some of my friends and supporters, who not only are musicians but label owners and otherwise helping me with making syndae known to the world out there. It's a great honor to have you all in my social bubble, and I couldn't do it without your help. So a big thanks, just before syndae goes on a one week break to take a rest from all this collective rights business. I hope you enjoy tonight's music as much as I do. Here you will find tracks by Stefan Erbe (Nachtlichter), Time Away (Alien Invasion), moonbooter (Both Sides of the Moon), David Wright + Stephan Whitlan (The Reflecting Sky), Jim Ottaway (Skies Rain Down).

Back in the studio and ready to go all in with fresh and new music. And we get rolling with some really intense stuff for mind and body alike. Luckily when spending some time in a rather relaxing area of Germany, I missed out on a second heat wave at my home. Which left me completely relaxed and empowered for the second half of 2020, one of the most chaotic years of my life so far. How about you? Comment below on social or soundcloud, what do you think of 2020? And of course, to loosen up and free your mind, first listen to the excellent contributions by All the Morphic Oceans (Forms: IDM Volume 1), Robert Elster (Endless Observations), Roberto Sass (Alien Invasion), Miopec (Wet Desert), All Shall be Well (Zwartgroen).

And suddenly summer is gone. At least at my place, where temperatures dropped from the thirties to under twenty. I'm not that sad about the temperatures, but the world simply is more beautiful with some sun in it. Seeing all that green glowing, within trees and lawn and fields, seeing all the colours reflecting the sun beams as if there is some kind of competition on who is brightest. Simply wearing a shirt outside (and pants, you naughty people), no jacket required. And then there is the daylight starting early and staying long. But fear not, summer will be back one day and those other three terms are not too bad either. But, hey, let's get the beauty and colour back for tonight, with all the wonderful tracks on this show by Fiona Joy Hawkins (Moving Through Worlds), Erik Wøllo & Michael Stearns (Convergence), Holland Phillips (A Momentary Pause), Adrian Earnshaw, Adam Balusik (presah), Sherry Finzer & Chris Jacome (Soul Español).

This was a strange past week. My thoughts got a bit dizzy at work, maybe doing to many things in parallel. So tonight's edition is full of excellent music that makes my brain focus only on the sound of electronic music at it's best. Meanwhile, on facebook I asked for what people would think of making the show one full hour in length. Quite positive response to date. But, of course, you listeners should have a say. Let me know by commenting on social media or soundcloud or mixcloud or by sending an e-mail. Would you like 60 minutes of syndae? is it too much at once? I'm not sure about the format though, but with the license being cleared it could be done. For now, enjoy the compact half hour treat presenting cool tracks by Sylvain Carel (Sunrise on Panipat), Sensory++ (Exoversum), Klangzaun, Jingoba Electric (So Far), Sverre Knut Johansen (Dreams Beyond).

There are several reasons for tonight's edition being a rather quiet and ambient one. For once, I need a resting point, as the past days I did not sleep that well. Second, I just learned that a musical idol of mine passed away last weekend. You all know how fond I am of John Kerr. Especially, as his The Seed inspired me to do The Sound of Syndae CD. Now he is gone. And I was very lucky to get to know him personally on some occasions. A gentle, positive and, of course, very talented man. I think, tonight's show could be seen very fitting, closing with one of his wonderful tracks from Norland. Before that, you will get to hear mostly peaceful music by Ivan Black (Faces Merging), Forrest Fang (The Book of Wanderers), Liquid Mind (Liquid Mind XIII: Mindfulness), Alessandro Barbanera (Haunted Houses), Serena Gabriel ft. Steve Roach (Inanna's Dream), Iyari (Hozro), BlueMonk & Michael Whalen (Karmic Dreams).

Usually, syndae is a pure instrumentl show. Ok, sometimes I do have tracks with lyrics for events. But tonight, there is no event to announce. These days rarely is. Nevertheless, I decided to break my rule and have some synth, some pop, some new age stuff on this edition. Just for fun. And I also try a different format of the show, so you actually get two times 30 minutes instead of one hour. Sounds strange? Well, it is. Part 1, the Air part, will be the moderated one. So it's half an hour like you got before with fresh and current music. And if you decide to stop there, feel free to do so. The second part, the Play part, will be an in the mix section. I first let you know what you will be listening to, and then we go off for a cool ride. There will be tracks from albums published way back up to the early ages of ambient and electronic. So for some it will be a good memory, a reminder or simply some quite old stuff to get to know. Let me know in the comments what you think of this format. Feedback is always welcome. But let's get into tonights treats. In the Air part you will get tracks by The String Theory (The Los Angeles Suite), Andawan (Alien Invasion), Obsqure (Cloud 9), Deep Imagination (In My Memory), Ananta Govinda ft. Will Calhoun (Mirror of Desire), Julian Shah-Tayler (Evolution). In the Play part I have Schiller ft. Heppner (Leben), Vile Electrodes (The Future Through a Lens), Rygar (Italo Disco Spacesynth Collection), Laserdance (Future Generation), Koto (Greatest Hits and Remixes), Hypnosis (Italo Disco Spacesynth Collection).

On we go with another hour of cool and fresh music, accompanied by some really awesome tracks from the past. And it's all full in traditional electronic music this time, with lots of sequences and soundscapes to relish. And I tell you what, there is something fascinating in this repetitive but slowly growing style which gets me again and again. Of course, it might be a reason that I am a child of the 80s where this style of music had some kind of golden age. It still rocks ... well, wrong term musically. The newer takes on Berlin School and influenced genres all add something own and modern to it. And still, listening to the good aged tracks, it all feels quite timeless. But listen for yourself to the marvellous tracks by TaboTago (Simulacron), Michael Brückner (Footprints), Wolfproject, Bouvetøya (The Fiction Makers), Thaneco (Journey to Ithaca Vol.1), Frank Specht (Sebastian im Traum), VoLt (HjVi).

Oh boy, I am full of energy at the moment. Spiked up by a short trip to the sea. And although it’s a quite lengthy trip, it’s definitely worth smelling and breathing the salty air. Yeah, I know, it’s not the best time for travels, but at least one gets some different sights and fuels up. One of the best audible things at the sea are its waves, pounding in a constant rhythm at the beach. and what is in it for you? Well, you get a beat full of sounds tonight, which may be borderline or further into dance music. Hence, get up on your feet and start wobbling with tracks by Dohnavùr (You Can and You Shall), K37 (Alien Invasion), Progeny-1 (Alien Invasion), Cosmic Kingsnake (Ad Astra), Andy Morello (Collateral Fluxus of Imaginary Thoughts), Deto And Gleam (Archives), Horror House (Tiempos Mejores), Wormhole (Hot Trax), Element4 (Monotony in Motion).
