Nord Modular G2 Engine - patches storing via MIDI |
 |
|
Hello everyone!
I'm a very new owner of the G2 Engine and looking for help!
Is there any possibility to storing patches (variations) via midi? Is there any cc controller or sysex mesaage responsible for this? I cannot find the information about it. Thanks in advance! |

There also used to be some tooling for this .. but that is a bit complicated IIRC .. https://bluehell.nl/iaf/html/nm-open/nm-open-software.htm .. but I have no idea if this would still work .. and how it worked. _________________ Jan

It's still unclear to me. Can I store in that way a preset using just a MIDI controller? (without the computer connected to the G2) |

I don't know .. you'd need something able to receive, store and send back MIDI sysex files, but I have no idea what that MIDI controller can do.
When you have a link to it's manual I could have a look at it. _________________ Jan

Looks like it can not do that ...
But maybe I've misunderstood and maybe you just want to select ptaches and variations on the G2?
In that case ... use program change messages and CC70 for changing variations. _________________ Jan

So, just as I thought.
The idea is:
1. Create patch in the Editor and upload it to the G2.
2. Assign some parameters (osc coarse, filter cutoff etc.) to the 49 Sl.
3. Work standalone (without the computer).
4. Modifying the synth parameters over MIDI and overwrite vatiations from 49 Sl. |

That sounds doable ... you can assign CC controllers to parameters, and you should be able to do that on the MIDI controller too.
Looks like you'll have to use advanced mode on the MIDI controller.
You'll want to use CC messages to control parameters, it does not matter much which one you use on the MIDI controller, as long as you know which knob, or slider or whatever uses which one.
Then in the G2 editor you can you can right click on just about any knob
, and then select MIDI controller from the popup menu and assign a CC number to that knobe.
When you want to change variations on the G2 you will need to use CC70 - and it looks like this is possible in advanced mode.
Then to slect patches .. you will need bank slect and program change, which can be done from the buttons and the drum pads .. or so it seems.
You'll have to do some menu navigation on the MIDI controller .. the manual is not directly clear to me without having the actual device. _________________ Jan

I know I can do it all. But I'm looking for equivalent for button "store as" from a keyboard version - in the form of something that I can assign to the MIDI controller. Anyway many thanks for your time and help. I appreciate! |

Yeah ok .. not seeing how to do that with an engine and a MIDI controller only ... a dedicated computer then ;-) _________________ Jan
