My G2X still works and is still loved. In fact, if I could take only one synth to a desert island it would be the one.

It's starting to show it's age though. I've mostly been playing keyboards on my Nord Stage 2 and real pianos. As a result, I have developed a firm touch, especially with my left hand. The G2X has started making a clanking sound, strictly mechanical, when I play strongly in the lower octaves.

I'm getting ready to take out screws and see if I can't identify what's going on and fix it with some felt or some other sort of cushioning. That's why I'm posting the call for help.

When I open it up, what should I expect? Any suggestions on what to do in this case? I'd like to be forearmed with some knowledge.

Thanks...

Hey! maybe some electronics grease? Here is a video for the the Nord Electro 6: https://youtu.be/BM7TWErUqyw?si=2uWNQvKb87Y3ufgF

The G2 keyboard is not similar to the Nord Electro 6 keyboard I think and I never tried this before. I remember seeing this video and I thought maybe it could be useful eventually.

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems strange to put on grease, then spray with WD40 and then wipe it all off.

I'm in the process of moving to a new studio so I'll just live with the clanks until I have the space and time to work on it. I'll post something when I know something more.

Embarassed OOPS

After a bit of investigation, it turns out that the clanky sounds from the keys were the result of sympathetic vibrations coming from a music stand that somehow came into contact with the synthesizer stand that the G2X sits on. Easy fix. Shocked

This reminds me of the only thing I remember from a programming course I took years ago: "If you can't find a bug, look where you don't think it is."

This proves the value of education. Smile

haha! love it!
It still happens to me sometimes that I make complex patches with the G2, then I have no sound in the speakers, I investigate for too long in the virtual routing of the patch, before realizing that the speakers are turned off.
Just yesterday, I heard a noise in my speakers when I played a kick too loud. I put my ear close enough to the speaker to make sure the noise was really coming from inside the speaker. I was convinced that a wire was loose inside and was snapping with the wind and internal pressure. I had my screwdriver in my hands, ready to open the skeaker to fix it, when I realized that the noise was actually coming from inside the wall, 1.5 meters away.

I agree! I have already removed the keyboard and the keys to clean the faulty contacts on certain keys and I do not remember seeing any traces of grease. But it may be useful for a very worn keyboard, before replacing it.

One day before your wall went sonic .. i opened my old streaming and recording PC ... but it was a neighbour drilling and making my wall sound like a stuck fan ... it was not the PC fan.

That PC does need work of course .. to get a year or more of dust out Laughing next week I'll have a power cut for a couple of hours ...

I guess yes. The model should be a TP/9S, version 61 keys for G2X and 37 keys for standard G2 keyboard. http://www.fatar.com/Pages/TP_9S.htm

I never ordered anything from these websites:
- https://synthcube.com/cart/fatar-synthesizer-keybeds

and this link could be useful for people who want fatar keyboard parts:

Edit: oups for the NM classic this should be a fatar too, but a smaller one than the G2..
