I have a hard time figuring how the "variations" work... I just discovered that a variation can be written by dragging the wiggly in the upper right box to any of the eight variations boxes. But then when I click it, it will not recall those values. And when I apply changes to my patch it affects all the eight variations boxes. And I can't find much information about this section. What I'm really looking for is a way to have this section work as a "preset" function, like it used to work on the NMG2demo editor: something very useful for playing live.

Good question - I forgot it myself - not used in verylong time ... once the email gets sorted out here and at home .. I probably will have time to look into it .. to see how it worked again ...

The only thing the FAQ says is

Quote:
1 to 8 - Select one of the variations 1 to 8 as the current variation. Patches have 8 variations, and each variation can have different settings for knobs and selectors.

Which are the keyboard shortcuts .. so the idea must have been that it is possible to set pots in one variation without affecting it in others ...

I'm affraid i really will have to test that now Laughing

But can it be that you are mixing up variations and the randomizer?

Your patch "variation_test" 2021-05-05 appears to work the way I'd want: when I load it all the "preset" boxes have different wigglies, and when I click on any, the settings of the equalizer changes. When I change the settings of other parameters the main wiggly changes, but it does not change all the 8 preset boxes. Alas when I'm in a "real" patch all the eight wigglies always follow my edits.

AH!
looks like I found my answer...
it is "include all for randomization".
That way, variation can be made and recorded by dragging the main wiggly to one of the variation boxes. It stays there and recalls the changes when I click on a variation box. I can save the patch and the variations get saved also.
Nevertheless, tell me if you find anything on the subject...

Ah, oh .. some meory came back Laughing

the randomizer / mutator screen ... [view/Randomizer... from the menu] is also there to set what must and must not be randomized.

And the popup menu for knobs also has a randomize option.

But now that song from the musical hair is stuck in my head .. weird .. that bit ..

Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes[...]

Anyway, good you've found it Smile
