Subject description: Mac Mini goes Intel and Palm is being sold to Apple

It seems that the Mac Mini will transition to the new macIntel platform in July. It is not unlikely that that it is intended to grab a part of the HES market. ( Home Entertainment Server ). It will most likely come with Front Row, the full iLife suite, a DVD-R drive, decent connectivity and a remote control. Chances are it will also have video-to-disk capability and also an extended fetaure set when connecting to the ITMS.

Another emerging rumour is that Apple is just about to aquire Palm. This is still a hazy one, but it makes perfect sense. Consider an iPod product with a built in Palm PDA.

Hmmm, Palm split off it's OS group (PalmSource), who is talking the old Palm OS and running it as a thread under Linux. Meanwhile, Palm has moved to Microsoft Mobile 5.0!! Now Apple wants Palm? I'm sooooo confused Confused

For the sake of all the iMusthave people out there, I think there's more excitement in an Apple Treo device (MP3, PDA, PHONE).

Yes, this IS confusing. In the PDA department, Apple has to do something.

Wait. Olympic Curling is on TV. Gotta go. Wink

I know. I dunno how true these rumours are and what it is Apple is supposed to buy. As far as I can see the Palm hardware platform is worth nil to Apple and what Apple would like to get their filthy little hands on would be the "old" Palm OS... or not?

There is however one killer product missing right now. Apple introduced the iCal product, which is fairly nice and this one with an improved integration with Mail and Address Book + a server product would be truly awesome. I have messed about with lotsa PDA products and scheduling software. I haven´t really found anything I really like. Most products have been seriously flawed. What Apple needs right now is a networking component for the standalone contacts and scheduling apps + some new features. If Apple simply had bundled this networking component with OS X Server we would be looking at a new killer product. Then Apple flavoured PDAs would sell themselves by the thousands. I would probably buy 50-60 of those right now myself( for work ).
