The latest edition of the German Keyboard magazine had an article about a new synth from Jomox.
After reading the description Joker Nies wrote I patched a bit and here it is.

Please enhance.

Karel.

welcome Karel,

I thought this to be an interesting patch to look into this weekend .. unfortunately (with the server problems) it will have to wait a bit longer.

Karel, could you maybe write a little about this patch for us who didn't read the article in the keyboards magazine ?

Or maybe Joker, when he is lurking :-)

The patch seems to be able to produce the occasional interesting bleeps, but then its all gone again. It would help to have an idea about what the model is behind this.

Hi,

I think Karel is refering to this synth : http://www.jomox.de/
I have no access to the keyboard article Sad
But I would like to hear the beast he he.

Ah right, of course, I remember that blue thingy, saw it last year in Frankfurt at the Messe (it was next to the Clavia boot). It made nice sounds, I didn't understand a thing of the user interface, but that hardly mattered I believe :D

I got an email from Karel in which he asked me to post this:
Karel wrote:
The Neural resonator, or Resonator Neuronium as it is called by Jürgen Michaelis, it?s inventor, is build from six filters in a network that allows resonating feedback. In this way you get a multiple chaotic system that is self organising. Sound is synthesized by resonating and gets it?s character by coincidence like the way mutations are made in evolution.

This was the reason why Michaelis did not want to make the synth in a program. He did not want to have linear digital systems produce sounds with principally non-linear character. But this description reminded me of Palle?s mutator where digital computing and biological development meet.

Anyway, the sound is created by resonating filters and each filtered has an output that is coupled to a sequencer that shapes the pitch and an envelop generator that controls it?s volume. Because of the network connections between the filters, a circulation of the signals is established that can produce unique sounds that will be perceived as organic because it is chaos driven.

Next to the filter web there is another network that controls the filter cut off frequencies. By this every filter?s cut off is modulated by the output of the other filter, including it?s own. I realize this is not in my patch, I only understand it now from the article.

The special thing is that this synth is made of six identical parts that create sound because they are in a network. I?ll try to describe the nodes as they are in the picture:

Every node is a filter with its? output connected to all the other nodes, including it?s own. Now I understand the output is also connected to the cut of frequency modulation input. On it?s way out the sound passes a sequencer and an ADSR envelope generator modelling a VCA. In my patch I could not think of how the sequencer could modulate the output signal, so I did send the sequencer signal to the cut of frequency modulation input of the filters.

Every filter can also receive an external signal in the original design.

It also might be that the sequencer modulates an oscillator and in this way sends a sound signal into the filter. But I can not understand that from the article. I was amazed by the different sounds the mutator could get out of the patch.

I attached the sound file that came with the magazine for further enlightenment.

Hope this helps,

Karel.

because he himself was not able to post here for some (technical) reason.

Thank you Karel.
