I had to google to find out who benny benassi was
After watching the video
I think your patch is very close. The song has some variation where a 2nd VCO is added. My guess is its a MS20 but the G2 is quite good at emulating an MS20. |

No, it isn´t. I had an MS20, once. No comparison, IMO. It´s analog.
Not to say it´s better, just different sound. To get analog sound is
not impossible on a digital, but much more work usually.
But on a real analog, (almost) every sound *does* "sound analog".
Anyway, I like the G2! And I miss my MS20 and Mono/Poly, too...

You might be right, maybe I should have another 'listen' to the video.
I had an MS20 as well, sold it in Bondi Junction in 1979. Dont miss it at all. |

Alot of his sound comes down to the high grade compressor he uses side chained to the kick and also his reverb module/plugin. I think you could use any half decent saw and very close to the same effect, mainly because what gives it it's identifiable character is how the compression and reverb interact with it. This has probably been EQ'd to sound fatter, maybe run through some slight saturation effect. And then there's the mastering etc.
I think you've done a really good job of getting his saw lead/bass sound, but I don't think you're ever going to get it exact unless you had his gear in front of you. And even then, I think we'd all be hard pressed to do exactly what he did, and even more so what his highly paid engineer and mastering engineer did. |

MS20...
I used to plug it into a tape echo followed by a leslie type rotating speaker
(running in slow mode) with added spring-reverb.
Then I plugged a microphone into the EXT SIG input, and gave me 2 pitch
following OSCs and some filtered voice mixed in too...
Feedback could happen then, with the pitch follower going mad, which was very welcome!
And then there´s been my famous "vulcano explosion and hot bubbling mud"
patch, I never got this again anywhere else
Maybe that´s where these special memories are coming from,
because yes I was dissappointed with it´s basic (lead) sound first.
I think I was 15 or 17.

I haven't gotten a nord modular yet to test out this sound on... But the benni bennassi HPF sound in satisfaction comes from a virus C... Not an MS-20. |
