Delay effect Subject description: How to build a delay effect? |
 |
|
Hi everyone at electro-music!
Can someone explain to me how i build a delay effect with my NM?
I have the Wizoo nord modular book but they dont say nothing about that, they talk about delay effect but not how to build it. It seems to me that is not really easy....
Thanks a lot for your help
Pedro
P.S. sorry another thing...what means, "add a poll to your topic"? What is the poll question poll option and run poll for ....days |

for my purposes, building a delay (or reverb) patch on the nord just takes up too many resources to make it worthwhile, so a delay pedal is nice...
but here is a link from the archives :: http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/010_NordModular/014_Interesting_Threads/Folder/TapeDelay/TapeDelay.htm
(note: always check the archives! the answers to your questions are bound to be in there... somewhere...)
but there is a little trick i have used, though it's not some fancy tape-delay effect or anything. and i don't have it with me, but will try to give a basic explanation.
for a keyboard -based patch:
have the gate output go to a three channel mixer. also have it go through a logic-delay module, and run the output of that through the mixer. run the mixer output to the envelope gate. that way, when you play a note you get the one you played plus one a little afterwards, a la delay effect.
you can adjust the logic delay to you preference, though if i rememeber correctly you'll hit a point where the delay is so long it won't actually repeat.
you can also expand this to have multple delays, multiple delay times, looping, etc. fill up those mixer inputs, use an 8 channel, etc. i can't remember exactly how i did looping off hand, but i'm sure you can play around a little and figure it out
sorry if my explanation is confusing. i'm still drinking my morning coffee, have no nord editor on this computer, and have not got much sleep lately... if i remember i'll try to upload some examples, but it wouldn't be until monday. _________________ music: teamabunai.org/oao

| Along the lines of the above reply, in the past I've used a sequencer and gates to simulate a delay type effect, you have the added bonus of being able to program in odd sounding "delay" patterns and of course you can also double this with a modulated panner to move the "repeats" around. |

I've done a similar trick...
i took the basic sound generating parts, leaving the Envelops for last...
I send the basic output (post Filter) to an Envelope, which generates the sound you want...
Then I add a second Envelope with a slightly slower attack (simulating how much the signal is delayed from the original) and obviously a longer Decay/Release (simulating the delay length).
The I added a Clock w/ Sequencer (you could use a value or beat sequencer), and routed that into the "delay" Envelope's Amp. Tempo controls the "delay" time, and you can create rhythmic delay things...
THEN I added a LP Filter to the output of the "delay", and have basic Envelop with fast attack and slower decay that controls the cutoff, basically just making the signal less clear over time...
I guess for an effect you could basically do with just a pedal it's a lot of resources, but with this system, you can do a lot of stuff your basic delay pedal doesn't, which I guess at least gives you incentive for using it. _________________ Studio:

Great ideas, I generally use envelopes also. If possible, run the delayed part through a cheap LPF to get it to mellow out a bit.
