Better than the beta OSX editor? |
 |
|
I've read the introductions and the release information and let me first say a big thanks to the developers right up front. It's good to know that someone has picked up the ball and is running with it. It's always a bummer when a company leaves one of their products in the dirt and dust of development and Clavia is no exeption. I use the original OS9 editor with my micromodular on a dedicated computer so have no as yet immediate plans to run an editor in OSX......but you never know......so I downloaded the beta editor from the Clavia site just in case. I know it's got a few bugs though I haven't used it. Nomad is previewed as having quite a few bugs. It is also not tested with the Micro but since the Micro is essentially 1/4 of a Modular I would think it would work. I guess my question is:which buggy program is better?
Can anyone report what Nomad looks like compared to the original? _________________ Apple Mac Pro 2019 3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W

the creator actually says that its not as good as clavia's full working PC editor, so it can't be better than the os x beta. that thing crashes on me all the time though.
but basically...you might have to stick it out for awhile longer if you're looking for the beta alternative. |

I can not answer your question completely because I have not seen clavias editor running on a mac before and thus can't compare it with Nomad. But you can compare them yourself. The download is available at http://nmedit.sourceforge.net/ . You can make it communicate with the Micro Modular when you follow the instructions at http://nmedit.sourceforge.net/help.html#micro-modular
Additionally on OsX you have to install Plumstone (available at http://www.mandolane.co.uk/index.html )
The current version of Nomad has a few annoying bugs, plus only a subset of the functionality of clavias editor is implemented. I recommend it only when you have no alternative (when clavias editor can't communicate with the NM). The next release is planned for about december/January - it should be complete enough to replace clavias editor.

Got to http://nmedit.sourceforge.net/ , on the bottom of the page you can find some screenshots.

Good enough. I'll wait awhile and see how you guys do with it. Those screenshots look VERY good though. I especially like the way you've got the module Icons with the actual name of the module. Something that Clavia got wrong IMHO. I can never remember which Icon goes with what module on the top row so I'm always using the drop down selector! I'll miss the patch directory on the right hand side.....or will I? Thanks and good luck! _________________ Apple Mac Pro 2019 3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W

I had the same problems with the icons. This is why I changed it. The next version will also have a complete set of new icons which should be better to recognize.

This will be replaced in the next release. I will add a directory tree view where you can add different directory locations as entry points. The tree will show only the subdirectories and files of the entry points. This way you have a quick overview over the locations where you store your patches. _________________ ----------------------
