Hi, Toni!
That's a realy big question, answering it would take many, many pages and I don't have the time to write all those. Fortunately some people already wrote such a explanation.
This is a good example;

I recomend that you get something like that. _________________ Kassen |

I have this book, and it is well worth it. Not only can you pick up enough "scientific" information to build these systems of synthesis yourself, but it is mostly written in terms of explanation as to what each synthesis method offers in terms of capabilities of sound reproduction (ie- can you make it sound like something in the real world, like a bell, or is it more like a horn, or is it not like anything "real" at all?)
It is VERY thick and VERY thorough, covering most available forms of synthesis, as well as basic digital signal processing theory.
It, however, needs a companion CD, or set of synthesis tools that match the examples. But this is not completely necessary to understand what's going on. You're best bet is find a tool, program, or synthesizer that contains enough information that you can then reference the book to see how it's done. |

Miller puckette's online book referenced above is AWESOME. outstanding.
the road's tutorial is my favorite computer music book period. complete and comprehensive -- almost biblical in scope.
those two are all you would ever need. understanding them fully is another matter, and a lifetime project i suspect. _________________ All phenomena are atoms in association and dissociation. |
