So I have a CES Ed-Lab 500 "Exploratory Electronics Trainer" and I would like to know if there are any useful audio-friendly circuits I can milk out of it.
So far I have only run the DC voltage through the photocell and into the VCO input on the oscillator and then used the oscillator to modulate the "buzzer". I think I have enough diodes to make a ring modulator, but am not sure how to patch it up. Any other ideas? Pics below....

Just this weekend I was trimming down my email in-box. I subscribe to a number of lists, and it really stacks up after a while.

Anyway, as coincidence goes, while I was going through my Serge List folder, I ran across a post from this gent selling a couple of Ed-Lab units. Damn things sold in less than 12 hours, and for not a cheap price. Apparently, Sergers (and likely banana-jackers in general) seem to really love these things. Sorry, can't remember which models the guys sold (he had two different models).

Cheers,
Scott

That FS post on the Serge group was what inspired me to find an Ed-Lab. I am putting together a frankenstein banana modular and thought it might be useful. Sadly, mine is on the low end features-wise.
I should still be able to make some useful circuits though, right?

LOL, your location finally dawned on me. I kept thinking "Do they have Ed-Labs in Tajikistan?"

There might be some interesting stuff you could do with that - processing CV's and so forth. Maybe work a slew generator out of it. I notice those diodes have a 'Ge' next to them....germanium, element of the fuzz Gods. Maybe you can put them in series with an audio signal and cook up some cool distortion?

Or, hook a signal to the collector of one of those transistors, another signal to the base, run a resistor from the emitter to ground and tap off of the emitter just to see what that might sound like. Try things like that - tere may be some interesting possibilities there. Wouldn't work too easily on my synth, though. It missed the banana boat Very Happy

Cheers,
Scott
