chuck is GREAT |
 |
|
I just wanted to say hello to everybody..
i'm new here, and i came across chuck a couple of days ago. i was playing around with it and WOW - Really Great software..
why didn't i know about that earlier?
And I have some questions too:
- the documentation says to start chuck in loop mode + get the focus back you can use --loop& - but this does not seem to work? (using WinXP / and chuck version 1.2.0.7)..
- is there a way to write classes that have signal in/outputs? so you can use the chuck operator, for example adc => myObject o => dac ?
(of course you can use 2 ugens as members to use as in/outputs - like:
myObject o;
adc => o.GainIn;
o.GainOut => dac;
bus isn't there a more easy way?
thanks a lot..

Great! Welcome!

We all do and there's no end in sight... isn't it fun?

Yes, that's a oops in the manual. This works on Linux and OSX (both based on Unix) but not on XP (which -erm- isn't..). The manual should note that at the next revision, if I'm not mistaken this is already on the list of "things that should be fixed in the manual".
About your second question, I seem to remember there was a example about this somewhere but forgot where. Anyone?
Anyway, Good to have you with us, also check out the mainling list and the wiki, if you'd like. _________________ Kassen |

Unfortunately there is not right now. This is definitely something that is needed, and we are working on implementing a feature like this for an upcoming release. But for now the approach you have suggested is probably the best one.

I completely forgot where and what example I saw but I trust Spencer on this one...
(my oops). It'd be nice to have this, this and about a thousand other things on the list.... (do those Princeton people get any sleep at all?)
I'm from the Netherlands, I understand German, both written and spoken and I can speak it as long as I can get used to it again for a while and speak slowly. My written german sucks. Badly.
I fear I'm of little help there but at least I got introduced to ChucK in Germany (in a Berlin kitchen, of all places...). The Hague is on the West coast of the Netherlands so about as far from Germany as one can get in my small country, still in my experience Germany has nice people, nice beer and nice techno so I like to visit it when I can.
Edit; oops! I just noticed that last line wasn't adressing me, sorry. _________________ Kassen Last edited by Kassen on Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:23 am; edited 1 time in total |

Hello to everybody,
thanks for the replies.. really nice people here..
| Quote: | | This works on Linux and OSX (both based on Unix) but not on XP |
that's a pity.. is there a reason? some OS specific reasons? (i wish i had a mac anyway...)
| Quote: | | Unfortunately there is not right now. |
that's also a pity.. bis the workaround is fine for now.
| Code: |
i see that you're from germany [..] and maybe we're both german speaking? |
Hehe i`m from Germany, yes, but as you see, in from stuttgart..
and maybe you know that advertising slogan "Wir können alles ausser Hochdeutsch" ?
(=swabians have competence in almost everything but in speaking german.. ) not easy to translate..

glad to hear i haven't been to the netherlands yet, (no particular reason) but i'm sure the peole there are extremely nice too..
another thing i am interested in - how do you code your stuff / some kind of editor? how do you work with chuck? only command line?
i also looked at audicle - but i have to say my first impression is that i don't really like it.. first it did not run stable.. and i do not really like the gui.. are there any other apps? (already thinking of making a new one.. but i'm not the programming guru. i only have a little experience with .net that is all - so that might be too big for me. let's see...)
also tschüssle

TZ,
The problem is with Windows; the windows prompt is still based in syntax on DOS and so doesn't realy deal with multi-tasking that well. It's just a matter of syntax. A solution that I like is having two links to the prompt in my start menu. They have different names ("green" and "blue") and use different colours so I don't mix them up.
I don't use the Audlicle either; it has some sort of issue with my laptop's graphical card. The miniAudicle is rapidly maturing though, it's quite stable, has line numbers, a easy conection to the VM with keyboard shortcuts and syntax highlighting is being implemented as well. I still think the Audicle is mind-blowing so once it matures and I get a faster laptop I'd like to use it. _________________ Kassen |
