so i finally decided to purchase the appropriate high density DIP sockets from mouser! i want to be able to check the populated board but without the rather expensive SN76477 IC.
so if anybody in europe wants to join the order...

I should have picked that up since I had to make the skinny footprint in the EPCB library

My first prototype with the production board, the one you have, was built using the skinny DIP package without any problems, thankfully
Let us know how you do.
In fact, everyone that has built theirs, please post as a continuum of this thread so we can all enjoy the work each of us has done
Then, maybe a thread containing SN Voice compositions !!! I will do one also. . I need to make new music as I have been busy with building, but, I love to compose also

first up -
got my boards today - thanks Bill, they look very good.
2nd -
LF444s are hard to come by in Australia
plus i am a student so i prefer to use what i have in the cupboard.
So has anybody tried TL074s or TL084s, any probs or objections to doing so?
i remember reading somewhere the LF444s were chosen for their low power consumption.
Also i only have 1k tempcos, has anyone tried halving the values of the resistors on the input network in order to use a 1k tempco?
if nobody has tried these subs yet, no worries, guess i will, use sockets, try and report back
oh, this is my first post here. Greetings from Perth West Australia.
some of my toys are here -

| If you only have 1K +3800ppm/C tempco resistors, you can series them up to create 2K. The temp coefficients do not add together, they will keep the same R-T relationship. Been selling thermistors for 20 years, so rest assured. |

Thanks

that is a useful bit of info - cheers
i'm fairly sure the TL op-amps will be okay too
just thought it was worth asking
cheers

Andrew
I've been an admirer of Pinky for some time now! I'm trying to recall - did you have that in Japan for awhile?
IIRC, the LF444s were specifically chosen for the XR-VCO - TL0X devices did *not* work in that app. Had to do with the value of or lack of, a HF cancelling cap in the summer amp. Now, I can't recall if they worked any better in the SN-Voice or not, but that one does have a 1N cap there - so it just may work OK.
Cheers,
Scott |

Hi Scott
>I've been an admirer of Pinky for some time now! I'm trying to recall - did >you have that in Japan for awhile?
correct, pinky was made in Japan. great place for getting into synths.
I was lucky enough to meet up with Motohiko Takeda and Houshu (Osamu Houshuyama), plus other synth diy crew in Japan.
they taught me a lot and showed me the best places to buy components in Akihabara (including one shop with heaps of SN76477s for 500Yen each(US$5))
one guy, Katzmi, did some good things with the SN chips -
http://analog-synth.jp/summit04/e_b_katzmi.html
(just some pics)
he liked his noise!

thanks, i will try them, but with sockets
cheers

as long as the temco is in the feedback path of the inverting amp that mixes the incoming control voltages, we should easily be able to use a 1k tempco and divide the values of the resistors R33-R61 by 2 to maintain the ratio... that's exactly what ray did with his new improved VCO:

Some quick demos of SN-voice from me |
 |
|
Here's my contribution for some raw, unedited and recorded on the fly, sound samples of the SN-Voice. It's how I like it!
The file is a compliation of short and a couple long jams. The controller is a 10 step baby sequencer CVing Noise/VCO and Gateing the EG. |

That indeed would have been an awesome experience. Motohiko is one of my pals, though I've never met him. He makes some outrageously good rock. My SN76477 skinnies came from him straight from the Akhibahra!
Hey guys, love the SN-Voice recordings. Keep'em coming!
Cheers,

NICE layout. I really dig it!
Here's mine
I took a big chunk of State Machines layout and added my touches to it. Right now I'm tryin to get the keyboard part working correctly. There's a bad connection somewhere I cannot figure out where 8x |
