[usb] why no connection? Subject description: Macbook ( Intel ) -> G2 = doesn´t work |
 |

hi all, i'm quite new to this forum! so far i found loads of use/helpfull stuff keep up the good work! thanks!
this topic is not about the midi connection which is working fine. this topic is about the usb connection related to the editor. my g2 and my powerbookg4 always worked together.
a while ago i bought a macbook. now somehow the editor of BOTH macs doesnt find my g2 ... i checked all versions macos, g2os and editor should be working fine ... i tried multiple usb cables they all seem to be fine in other connections.
does anybody have some tips? that might help pin down the problem? or to get the mothership connection up again?
if i get it up and running i'll check back this topic
thanks & regards! |

Just to be sure - do you use a USB hub? The G2 doesn't generally like to be connected to a hub.

I once had the same USB connection problem. In my case, I think the problem arose from forming a USB connection by plugging a live laptop into a live Clavia G2X. Both the G2X and laptop were plugged into a power surge strip, which did not protect me from the problem. I will never make a "hot plug" connection again. I always turn my laptop off now before plugging it into the delicate G2X, and then turn the laptop on.
Clavia, being a company of honor, stood by its product and paid for the complete repair. The repair required a new motherboard, which would have cost me $500+ labor. Apparently, the early models (G2; G2X) had this potential USB problem and Clavia has fixed it in later models. Now, the not-so-good news: it took 4 months to get my G2X repaired. They had to cannabilize a motherboard from another G2X. I worry that this means that there are few new motherboard production runs and that the G2X is being phased out, which would be a shame because it is an incredibly powerful, creative instrument. |

I have a new MacBook Pro and I have the same problem.
The Modular G2's editor works, but its imposible to connect to synth.
I tried several usb cables, works well on Windows and OS X on PowerPC, and not work on OS X over Intel.
I contact Clavia on Technical Support in www.clavia.se and I`m waiting their answer.
I think we will to wait to universal binary editor's version. |
