K

K, the PCBs are on their way around the world...

i wired the cutoff potentiometer as described above and according to the alternate wiring shown on the documentations schematic.

R23 is now 75k.

if i find some time i will try to build a standalone unit with simple LFO and driven by two 9V cellls... i have the same plan for the PS3100, but there is so much tot do!

I finally did the two mods to make the filter work right (R23, and tying the Fc pot through a 47k to -V) - this completely changes the filter, it makes it really work well. I have to make this mod to the rest of the boards now, but it's fairly simple.

If you haven't made these mods, you should. Wink

i am glad it worked out well for you this way. i built two of them for myself and one still waits to be tweaked.

BTW there are still some PCBs left for sale...

The response of the filter with the tweak now reminds me of my PolySix's filter. I should record some samples of it versus the multimode on the M5N, and the transistor ladder. The 2044 is such a rich filter.

there was again a discussion about HKSS in the synth-diy list these days, and there have been discussions before. i never ever heard of an bad SSM2044 from HKSS. he once sold obviously wrong labeled BBDs, though.

The ones I got all work fine. They are all identical date codes. It looks like he got ahold of a fairly large lot of NOS.

As with any large seller, I'd expect you're taking your chances with some of the rarer chips. But for these, I am quite happy.

Seams that you didn't read what CY had to say in the message in the link?

Mine work. I read what he said. I learned not to believe everything someone tells me on the Intarweb.

What you maybe do not know is that HKSS has had someone else playing Joe Job on him, from further inside China, selling less reputable parts. This seems to be a regular occurrence, and also seems to keep being reported sporadically, in any case, there is more to the story than is being reported on the list, as is usual.

Oh and edit. That was a year and a half ago. Internet years work faster.

I read that before, come to think of it.

is the mod for this in the documentation?

or is it just:

Look at the schematic. This is so simple I'm going to do it from my head.

Look at the Fc pot, and how it is tied to ground on one side. This limits the Fc a LOT. Take the ground side to the pot off, get a 47k resistor and then tie that to -V. There's your first mod to the board. Fc will now course from below fundamental to Way On High. It's a major mod. R23 turns into a 75k. You can do this by soldering another resistor in parallel, but I can't resist making you do the math, you need the practice. Wink

that's because it's too much math. Go slower.

Series Resistance: Rs = (R1 + R2 + Rn)

Parallel Resistance: Rp = (1 / (1/R1) + (1/R2) + (1/Rn))

Grab a calculator.

ok so i would add an 87k resistor to the 100k in parallel to get 47k. BUT i havent built the board yet so couldnt i just use a 47k to start with?

thanks
