I´ve got my SSM2044 chips.
So will there be a second run of PCBs?

How many units reserved would it take to make a new run worth while?

40 would be worth the effort. but before doing a 2nd run i wonder if i shouldn't improve the CV circuitry... if one really wants to use it as a oscillator i should, i guess. on the other hand it's only in tune for about 4 octaves, so would it be worth the trouble?

well, i don´t know if it is really necessary to use it as oscillator...

but i´m definitly interested in purchasing at least 4 pcb´s if you do a second run. i breadboarded your circuit some time ago and, well, i like it Very Happy

Hi,
I'm in the final stage of building the fonik SSM from the first run.

for me it seems that the Motm Power connecter has to be tourned around for 180°.
Can somebody verify this please ?

Thats how i have the Power Connector now.
the Pin on the right side is V-.
Usually this is V+, isn't it ?

Nice to see someone else's build, even when mine is working, just to make sure I am not an ass. I used ceramics up in the top left btw, and i didn't manage to find an 850pF capacitor so I just used a .1uF and it works too.

Anyway, yeah, the power point on the very right of your picture better be +V or you'll know about it fast.

Interesting point you make. I didn't use those connectors on my boards.

thanks for the answer,

so the print for the Motm connector is definitly wrong
( ----> that line that simbolises the back of the connecter )

About the Cap:
i asked fonik about that ( i think in the German synthesizerforum. I couldn't find it now )

I have marked my Data sheet with silver mica for C5.
I think fonik told me that it makes sense to take a silver mica.
I think styroflex is recommended.
Maybe it just affects the 1V/ Okt temperatur stability. I don't remember
btw.: the Value is 820pF

you are right. the connector has to be rotated by 180°. it has been corrected on the 2nd run PCB.

BTW i eventually changed the wiring of the cutoff pot (as discussed before). i hooked it up between two 47k resistors connected to the power rails to have a wide control range...

Up and running Very Happy Very Happy

ofcourse with multiple outputs Wink
And i changed the pots to the left, so i have some Space for the solderside of the Board( cos of shortenings when taking modules in and out)

Yes, the Cutoff range is far to small.
are the detailed infos for the modification in this thread here ?
and i prefer a much bigger CV2 Range.
Does i have to make R23 smaller to do so ?
what value for a 100% increased range ?

btw.:
i have a log Pot for the audio input.
That was a fault. i think linear will be better.

The sound is great.
the Output levels seems bigger than on the dopefer SSM.
the Resonance behave seems to be very different.
Maybe there should be also some adjusting................... ??
the A105 has much more reaction when increasing the Resonance,
but it also thin out the sound on deep to mid Frequenzys.
Your one fonik don't thin out, but also don't give that much effect in my modul.

Thanks Fonik for that very cool module.
btw.: the 1V/OKt is very good for exactly 3 oktaves. Cool Very Happy

I'm enjoying stuffing my rev1 version, thanks for the project!

I wish I had the money to engage this idea: build 8 of them for a hardware sampler output beautifier, as the SSMs and CEMs were used in the SP drums, samplers, etc. but not the more modern ones (Emulator IV). And/or to sweeten up Pro Tools outputs into analog mixing.

Any digital output is sweetened simply by passing through such a filter, even with Fc to maximum and no resonance.

yes - half the value? (i am not that good in maths, try it)

for cutoff pot: just connect the pin that is supposed to go to ground to a 47k resistor and then to -15V somewhere on the board. this way you get a wider range down to subaudio.

i am not that experienced like dieter! i am still learning. however there is a trimmer to set the self oscillation. how could resonance sound different in this special case? the resonance itself is not an external circuitry, it is inside the IC. only the res control is external and is nothing else but applying a cv to the appropriate pin of the IC!? when the filter starts to self oscillate, it starts to oscillate!? maybe dieters module uses different values for the capacitors C5-C8 of the IC? that would affect the sound, i guess. you just would have to keep the ratio. maybe someone could build a couple using different values?

ok, mods are done
= R23 for the CV2 Range is now 62K. Maybe something around 80K would be better, but for me i think it is fine.
100K is to conservative in my Opinion.

the cutoff Range is changed too.
I'm not shure, but maybe it might be a littlebit bigger for me.
That means that when i set the Trimmer T2 so that the Filter closes totally when cutoff is closed,
i'm not shure if the filter opens totally.
so i set it that i'm shure the Filter will open full, but it closes not to 100%.

The Sound is now WOW Very Happy
Resonace behave has changed now.
In or output level is definitly bigger than on the doepfer, and thats very fine so !
SSM Rocks !

@Fonik
you get PM Wink

thanks for the help Matthias
