(drools over MIDI->CV converter)
I got this yesterday:
Yep, Bose L1 Mk2. Only I didn't get the Tone Match and got an extra sub instead. Very impressed so far but won't be properly tested till I crank it DJing on Wednesday. _________________ My music: here! |

Well, opinion seems highly polarised! I did loads of net research before I bought it (and I do have the system on a trial basis) and there were people slagging it off to high heaven. Saying it was basically a con and just some bits of pipe in a box sold to credulous fools.
From my experience so far, this isn't true. Using the system with one sub is easily meaty enough for a pub / small club gig. With two subs (as I've got) it's perfect for DJing, particularly if you play a lot of hip hop and electronic stuff like I do.
The main reason I went for it and not a conventional PA, which would have been far cheaper for an equivalent loudness (if not quality of sound - the Bose's top end is lovely) is that I have numerous health problems. I have a bad back from 25+ years of gigging and I ripped something in my stomach muscles while racking heavy gear in my studio.
Big, conventional PAs are simply not an option for me. The Bose, I can manage on my own, if I'm careful. Conventional PA = my guts on the floor like spaghetti.
It is expensive, yes. But, so far, it sounds what it costs. Full report after Wednesday! _________________ My music: here! |

Ahh, I see!
A six-pack of subs would be awesome!
The ToneMatch seems to be a 5-channel digital mixer and DSP:
Apparently, it has presets for common uses:
| Quote: | The ToneMatch audio engine puts our largest library of customized presets at your command. These presets instantly adjust your system to match the intended natural sound of popular instruments and microphones. So you reproduce factory-specified tonal balance—precisely and at the touch of a button.
Different presets can be independently assigned to the engine's four channels. For example, select Audix® OM5 mic presets for channels 1 and 2, Taylor® guitar for channel 3 and Lakland® bass for channel 4—all at the same time.
Our engineers continually work with manufacturers to expand the ToneMatch preset library. Updates are available to you free, with easy downloading via the engine's USB port. |
Looks quite fancy and if I started gigging a lot with my system, as opposed to DJing, I might be tempted as it's a very small solution.
But, for the extra price, I think I'm better off with MORE BASS! _________________ My music: here! |

Ooh, thanks for that, ark, never seen that before!
I'm still evaluating the Bose so I'm open to other options. It is very expensive but I'm wondering if anything cheaper brings the bass as well?
Also, that unit looks very heavy. Guts on the floor time for me... _________________ My music: here! |

That's what attracted me to it -- I haven't seen anything anywhere near its weight with such good bass response. In case you didn't see the details, it has a 400-watt switching power amplifier inside that drives a 3-way speaker system including a 10-inch woofer that fires down toward the floor. |

Oh man... now I'm tempted to investigate that too! I shall have to find a UK dealer and see if they'll let me have a trial.

Their UK dealer seems to be Overwater Bass Emporium, overwater.co.uk, in Carlisle. |
