And - if all goes as intended - you will be able to crossfade between filterbank mode and vocoder mode (That's one of most interesing parts of the Sennheiser, IMO, BTW.)

I may even provide an interface for digital formant data storage, so you don't just have the usual freeze function, but can store your favorite formants permanently, while still having a completely analogue vocoder.

But all this is just preliminary.

am preliminary in for one! Very Happy

Put me down for PCB's too! Very Happy I've been a great fan of the Haible projects, so this one must be a hell of a vocoder, I'm sure.

Any ideas when this vocoder project will start? I can't wait to heat up my solder iron Wink .

It has started years ago - question is, when will I pick it up again. Smile

I saw this posted on Matrix synth, so maybe everyone else did too, but just in case-- here is a link to someone who scanned and posted schematics for syntovox 222 vocoder--and a very nice synton vocoder site in general:

Just to let you all know ... I'm getting into "vocoder mood" again. Smile

I thought about it a lot in the last few days. I think I will put the whole circuit onto one huge board, filling a 19" rackmount enclosure, like EMS did with the 2000 and 3000.
The board will have a much higher component density than EMS, though, so you can expect something more complex than the EMS.
Not more channels - but other goodies. Smile

I think I'll be able to offer that PCB for EUR 150.00 + shipping if I get enough orders.

Oh yes, and I have a name for it too:

It will be the "Living Vocoder". Smile

No matter how long it takes I'll be in for one board! 150 euros or more doesn't matter!

150 euro's no problem to me either - I too have been hoping this project would get revived soon! I like the idea of one large pcb rather than fitting it to a number of smaller Eurocard size boards as it cuts down on a large amount of interconnecting wiring.

Please, please make this the next project Jurgen!! Very Happy

I've been hoping you would revive this one next!! Will it have the ability to switch or morph between filter bank and vocoder? I've been wanting to build a filter bank but have been waiting for this project for that.

Cheers,
Dave

Here is what it could look like:

http://www.jhaible.de/vocoder/living_vocoder_frontpanel_unconfirmed_teaser.pdf

This is very preliminary, though.

And of course you can add patch points a la Moog/Bode or a Matrix a la EMS
and Synton.

This is DIY, after all!

JH.

This is th efunction of the silence bridging. When there is no speech signal, the filterbank function fades in (if this mode is selected). The filterbank can be set such that the unmodulated sound is roughly the same as the modulated, just without articulation. That's what sets the Sennheiser apart from others, IMO.
And of course, if you can do this automatically, it's easy to also do it manually, or with a foot switch etc.

JH.
