Hi all, new to the forums and midi controllers in general so please excuse any noobish questions.

Let me start of by saying that I've been playing classical piano for a number of years. Recently I've fallen in love with trance music and the creation of music in general using software sequencers & controllers. Currently I'm using Ableton Live 7 & I'm just starting to use Apple's Logic Studio, so the controller I purchase would have be compatible with, but not limited to these programs. I would also like to try FL studio, Cubase etc. I'm new to all this and have not decided witch program I would really like to stick with. I would like the flexibility to move between these programs need be.

Also another important feature is the key feel. I would love to have something with some weight and substance, a quality feel. Coming from a classical piano with ivory keys, one pet peave of mine is the extremely plasticy feel of some keyboards.

Finally, the price. I'm flexible I really don't mind spending a bit more money if it means I'll be getting a quality product, that will make the music making process that much more enjoyable. $350-800(aprox.)

Here are some models I've been considering:

Novation X-Station x-61: $588.99
M-Audio Keystation Pro 88: $408.99
M-Audio Axiom61: $298.99
Edirol PCR-800: $357.99
Akai MPK49: $397.99

Thanks in advance for any input.

I own the Akai and love it, however, it doesn't have weighted piano-style keys. It has basic synth/organ keys. The have a decent feel and have after touch. For its price point, it is a very good controller, and it works very well with Ableton.

What ever you do, Stay away from any novation products. From my experience, Novation is complete crap. M-Audo's AXIOM is solid w/ weighted keys and a safe bet that will work with any program almost automaticly. If you haven't made your desicion yet.
