I built this mixer (found on generalguitargadgets) some time ago and always powered it with a 9v battery.
however, i'd now like to use it in my slowly growing modular, using the +15v supply.

i am a little bit hesitant to "just hook it up and see what happens" because i'd like the magic smoke to stay inside ...

can i hook it up directly?
do i have to change some resistor/capacitor values?
should i use a 7809 to power it with 9v?

it would be awesome if someone with more experience could enlighten me.
thanky!

edit: i just noticed that this is my post #100. yay! party!

the mini mixer works with a single supply. actually R11 and R12 work as voltage dividers to form a virtual ground (the supply voltage is split so the actual mixer circuit "thinks" he is working with a dual supply. the offset is removed by the cap on the output AFAIK.

IMO the only reason to use this certain circuit would be to use it with a single supply (and a +15V single supply would work as well, or the +15V of your modular, as you planned to do). and it's good for mixing audio only (removed DC).

if i understood you correct you are looking for a mixer for your modular, so you have a dual supply available!? a simple mixer circuit would be the CGS DC mixer, mentioned by synthmonger. capable of mixing audio or control voltages. i built two myself.

another versatile one would be the attenuverting mixer Wink Wink

he guys, thanks for the input!

so if i understood it correctly then i can use this mixer with +15v.
but yes, i do have a dual supply as well. (since last night, hehe)

the only reason i was asking about using this particular design is that i already have built it and i dont want it to go to waste.
i have no use for the mixer in its current state anymore ( it was replaced with an non-diy 8 channel mixer some weeks ago), so i would just make a modular faceplate and re-use the whole thing.
it works really well and i dont want it to just sit in some box and collect dust.

if it only is good for mixing audio signals then this is fine with me - because then i can use it to mix audio signals Idea Cool

but yes, you are probably right - sooner or later i might want a mixer for CV. and 3 more VCAs. more LFOs. more MORE MORE... until the whole room is filled with blinky things and lots of wire.

edit: what would i have to change in order to have it run on a dual supply? (and what would be the advantage?
if only minor modifications are needed then i'll happily do them.

if you use just the positive rail, no change needed. the mixer will working for signals of 14Vpp (from -7V to +7V).

for changes to run it on a dual supply compare the circuit to ken stones CGS04 mixer.

it is nothing but two inverting mixers in series. the first opamp mixes the signals and inverts them, the 2nd inverts them again to get it all right again.

however, IC pins 3 & 5 direct to GND (0V), IC pin 4 direct to negative rail, IC pin 8 direct to positive rail, omit R11, R12, C6, C7 (and B1, J6 of course Wink ).

you may want to replace R9 by a potentiometer to have overall gain control.

again, just take a look at ken stones circuit...
