Working on a new way of doing things. (New for me at least.) Everything happens on the board itself, and I have several perfboards in this size so the machine can expand. Also for me this kind of build feels tidy and easy to work with.
Sparkfun sells awesome single header female/female wires.

So far it has:
4 oscillators based on 4093
3x 4040 ripple counters
4011 nand
4070 xor
4077 xnor
40106 inverters

To come(for this board)
More logic gates(AND/OR), maybe 4017 and 4018, they do have their uses.

The second board will have shift registers and data selectors, maybe the flip flops if they fit.

And lots of blinking LEDs this time!
Single Board Lunetta

Currently thinking about ways to mount it to a blog of wood or something to give it weight.

Sweeet! It's amazing how many chips you can place on a projectboard when you don't have to consider the wiring to a frontpanel.

This will greatly simplify building and debugging. Most problems I've encountered involved wiring, either shorts at the circuitboard, or wires breaking off at the banana's due to prolonged handling /adding / modifying. Covering the solderjoints with copious amounts of hotglue like I did by no means eliminated the issues.

I might build me one of these as well. I'd be using double rows of headerpins to reduce the need for multiples. There's no stacking bananajacks here obviously.

Hey, no R2R DAC's? I'm growing rather fond of those.

Very cool droffset.
The jacks and panels are by far the most costly part of my Lunetta, not to mention the most time consuming bit of building it. Doing a away with all that is a great idea.

Cheers guys,

Yeah multiples are my problem right now, I'll either need to build an add-on board with more pins or splice together cables that split off (more likely to do this one.)

This board is only for signal gen and logic gates. Stuff like the R/2R and the Melody Generator will live on either another full-sized board just for that, or I'll take the one from version 1 of the machine since it's on an unbroken small board and has 3 of them and a portamento.

Mounting is still the big issue, because tiny boards especially would need to be locked down and not be floppy all over. Thinking MDF rectanglular bases and using 3cm spacers at the corners to keep the board above it. Maybe metal washers hot glued to the bottoms of the bases to weigh them down.

EDIT:
Plus I can totally see now why someone would want to etch a pcb... it's a mission creating nice traces underneath.

Here is a micro-Lunetta that I made today. You can see the Karplus Strong circuit board on standoffs atop the Mac mini. On the front are two of those little eChucK Lunetta boards I had made.

The left is a 555 oscillator with pulse width and note frequency control, and on the right is a CD4040 binary counter. The outputs of the counter are combined with 100kOhm resistors to create a control voltage input for the KS board.

It's sort of a minimal Boolean Sequencer, requiring only two chips to make a fixed song of 4096 steps length. There are 13 unique tones produced with a binary counting effect to the music. This board was constructed by me for a customer so i will be sad to see it go lol.

droffset - great concept - I like that... ('specially all the blinkin lights)

Les - I'd like to hear what that module does....

ermm, droffset,

Those Sparkfun header wires are one side male, one side female. At your circuitboard Lunetta your in/outputs are a bit out of focus, but they seem to be all female.
As are the in/outs I have on my mini e-chuck lunetta modules I'm building. I will be mounting those on a plate of some sort, indeed refraining from panels for the in/outs, maybe have a panel for pots, switches etc.

Now I connect with non stranded wire. That works, but doesn't look half as neat. Also I have to squint to recognize the in's from the out's, as all are female now. So I had already considered to use female for in's and male for out's. If it wasn't for introducing the need for the exact sort of wires you use.

The Sparkfun header wires are just the thing I needed. Thank you for posting.

You may want to search around, I've seen cheaper, and also european distributers.

I have little time now, have to go, but will find them again.

In the mean time I couldn't resist these (male-male jumper wires) for just $8,00 and free shipping.

Hehe, yes, this one is for you Mathe.

Bruce: See if you can catch my show tonight, I'll be playing the module then.

Rych, thanks!
RF, thanks!

Sound coming soon, been recordin'

Inventor, I want one of those boards, it looks sweet. And that standoff idea is a cool idea for mounting, but what will you attach it to?

Electri-fire
Check these out for female/female:

Strange that I haven't found anyone else doing female/female wires. If you find some let us know!

I do have a lot of the male/male also, super useful and they naturally link well with the female headers.

A word on multiples, last night I took two fem/fem wires, cut them in half and soldered them together to make a 1to3 splitter. Works pretty well!

droffset,

You gotta wait for second run of boards which will be soon. Gotta build these first, then do some testing of the new expo converters, then go for a second board run. I'll be building for friends in special setups just for fun so maybe i'll throw something together for ya cheep too!

I get most of my female-female wires from Seeedstudio, they have a nice assortment.

Sounds good Inventor Smile
Rabiat, awesome link, cheers.

Current state of things. Sorry it's blurry but the other photo didn't show the lit up LEDs.

Lunetta Progress
Everything is screwed down onto one of those cork noticeboards. Lots of things are 'reclaimed' from the "Groovtasticator" build and still needs a bit of work to make it compatible with the connectors. This build doesn't have a name yet but I'm thinking of "The L-Pad."

From top left to bottom right:
-4x 4093 oscillators hard-wired to 4040s
--4x 9039 osc
--3x 4040
--40106
--4011
--4070
--4077
---2x 4011
---2x 4015
----4040
----4094
-----3x R/2R DAC
------Melody Gen
-------Soon to be a melody gen
--------simple 40106 vco (YAVCO I think)
---------4 channel mixer (buggy, need to fix it or redo it)

Regulated 5v supply with big awesome on/off switch

Bruce and all: See this thread:

and scroll down to my post of my Spring Equinox set. It's a KS jam worth listening to... Had a blast performing it!

Thanks guys Smile
Inventor I'm listening to your set now, sounds great. Is the KS portion the actual instrument sound that you're modifying with effects?

Yes Sergio, it's a KS fed into a ChucK looper called the Transmogrifier.
