Well I haven't got an MC202, but... here's the KPR. Sorry mate - I couldn't stop myself!
It was wasting space in a cupboard for a while, waiting to be sold, but last year I started using it again, so I seem to be keeping it for the time being...

I sold a retrofitted TR808 and Kenton Pro4 (with link cable) as a pair on ebay in 2001, the pair went for £390. You'll pay that for the Kenton alone today, and up to 4x that for the 808!
Around the same time I sold a Moog Rogue for £200. (mind you , I did only pay £30 for it).
I think the thing I kick myself for the most was in 1988 when I worked in a music shop (Music Village before it became Digital Village). The manager walked down the stairs with an MS20 in his hands and asked "do you want to buy a synth?", I replied "How much?", he said "£50", I replied "Nah" (thinking I could get one any time for that price)... Off he went back up the stairs, 5 minutes later he came back down sporting an MS10 "How about this one for £20?", I replied "No, I'll get one when I can afford it"... I STILL can't afford one!
Bear in mind that was at the time when TB303s were selling for £25 and SH101s were around £50. You'd often see "Analogue clearout" adverts in the back of Sound On Sound magazine with silly prices.
I have had a few bargains to compensate though, so I guess it all balances out in the end.
The one synth I have no qualms about selling was the Korg Delta, I got £500 for it. Nice sounds but you can't hook it up to the rest of your gear. _________________ LektroiD |

I sold an (un MIDI-ed) juno 6 last year and sort of regret it because I miss its warm sound and instant playability-but lack of space is a real problem for me just now (although a 6U gator rack has just arrived today-oops).
I had 2 CZ101's at different times which I thought were great for basses (and used them on quite a few releases), but the saddest of all was throwing out a not working ARP axxe which I should have kept and got repaired...
Also used to enjoy the Korg DDD1 drum machine which had eprom cards which you could slot in to augment the on board sounds, but I cant remember what the snares and hats were like (crap probably!).
On the subject of junking equipment - I know an ex-80's pop star who threw out 2 TR808's, a Prophet 5 and probably some other synths of that era. When I asked him why (after recovering from the shock) -he said that in the early 90's no one wanted to buy them and he needed the space. Doesnt make me feel too bad about taking a sick Emax2 to the recycling plant last year. Now if I could time travel...........
I'm sitting staring at my full up 9U eurorack modular just now and wondering where next.....bitten by the bug for sure!! |

i don't regret selling anything- i only regret that i forgot to sample my LinnDrum before i sold it.
many fine synths left my studio to make (wallet) space for the Buchla 200e, but i'm still left with a marvelous array of synths well-tuned to my tastes. |

A friend of mine offered me his System 100 in exchange for my ancient HH guitar amp (only a year ago or so). He didn't know how much it was worth (and to him, at the time, the HH was worth more). I couldn't swap it, knowing how much they are worth now.
The synth I really regret selling was my Moog Rogue. A brilliant little instrument- really quite versatile. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I´ve owned a nice System 100m rig myself. It was kinda cute and pretty musical, but absolutely not even close to the capabilities and quality of my current dotcom rig. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Well it was in 1982....I really liked using it - I liked the way you could patch everything through everything else. I used to put other recorded sounds as input into the filter section for some very noisy sounds.
But it's facilities compared to even basic synths nowadays is another matter. After a gap of 17 years not recording I was staggered at what even a technics keyboard could do as far as sound and sound manipulation - plus you could save the sounds which the 100 could not....
I actually gave it away to a local community centre at the time and i did contact them last year to see if it had been put in a cupboard and forgotten about but never heard back from them.... |

My analog synth tech told me that he had to replace the input jacks on someones dotcom synth because they had started to fail. Upon further inspection, he felt that they used a cheapish part. Have you had any quality control issues with your dotcom and... could you tell me more about your experiences with it? I've been thinking about getting a fully modular system over the last few years.... |

No problems at all.
Sure, the jack sockets aren´t of the most expensive and robust types out there, but still more than decent and none have me failed yet. If one fails then it is just a matter of putting in a new one. Maintenance.. hardly a problem. The wiring, the soldering and such are of the best quality imaginable.. and much more consistent than what you will find inside say a Roland 700 modular or in your average 70s Moog Modular.
At the other end of the scale.. like on the very brink to Muppet Show Hell you find stuff like the Plan B modules. The soldering and wiring usually looks like it has been done by squirrels on crack. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

It's revive-a-login-revive-a-thread day.
- Elka Synthex: mostly for its excellent analog choirs.
- Maplin 3800: quirky but great kit synth with loopable segments on the envelopes, a lovely dark sounding spring reverb and a c-64 interface which I regret not trying - pic
- Oberheim Matrix 6-r: underrated because of its DCO's, loved it for its thick, classy sound, somehow the Matrix-1000 seems the lesser machine |

I had an Alesis QS6.2 that I never even got to know because not too long after I bought it I sold it back to the store at a loss because I thought I needed a few bucks in order to go to an out of town job interview.
That. Was not. Worth it. |

I bought one of those as well. Worst gear investment I ever made. After adding RAM and a couple ZIP drives (one for the sampler, another for the PC), I had already invested about $1000 on it. A couple years ago I sold it for $250
I really liked how it sounded, and I would have kept it just for the warmth and the filters, but the truth is that it was very tedious to program and I had already moved on from sample-based to mainly synthesized sounds. _________________ My music: http://cdbaby.com/all/fac |

2 of my most regretted trades are:
1) The Roland System 100 (full 6 piece system, all working beautifully) that I'd gotten in the mid 90's, for $200 Canadian. That same evening I immediately had an offer of $2,000 U.S. for it. I traded it to a very good (still) musician friend of mine, who still has it. The sounds it were capable of were VERY different and very warm. Loved that guy.
2) The TR-808 that I got in direct TRADE for a Wursi String Machine that I had gotten myself, for $75 in the early 90's. The TR-808 and 1 of my 2 x Roland MC-4Bs were traded directly for a Fostex 8 track Reel to Reel.
On counter, sorta - my 3 best ever acquirements were, the above 2 for what I got them for, and yesterday's picking up of an Emu Esi-2000 with 128 meg of RAM for $100 Canadian.
Only thing that wasn't working was it's 3 1/2" drive. Opening it up, I found that the original owner hadn't connected it's data cable properly, when taking the original Zip drive out of the unit. Reconnecting the data cable properly and it's working beautifully.
Major happy score.
Also - another one confirmed yesterday - I won an e-Bay auction for a working Emu Esi-32, for $36 U.S. (Not including shipping.)
2 years of searching for a hardware sampler are finally over, with 2 great ones, for about $150 U.S. total. |
